JD Vance pushes Republicans as champions of working class in first speech as Trump’s running mate
The Guardian ^ | July 18 | Joan E Greve in Milwaukee

JD Vance formally accepted the Republican vice-presidential nomination on Wednesday with a deliberate, and at times divisive, pitch to re-elect Donald Trump in November.

Addressing delegates in Milwaukee on the third night of the convention, Vance, the junior senator of Ohio, presented the Republican party as a champion of working-class Americans while denouncing Democrats as out of touch and ineffective. The populist-tinged rhetoric offered the latest sign of how Trump has reshaped the Republican party and rejected much of the traditional conservatism of its past.

“From Iraq to Afghanistan, from the financial crisis to the Great Recession, from open borders to stagnating wages, the people who govern this country have failed and failed again,” Vance told the energized crowd. “That is, of course, until a guy named Donald J Trump came along. President Trump represents America’s last, best hope to restore what, if lost, may never be found again.”

Disturbing but not surprising. I personally don’t believe that JD vance will be the heir apparent.

I am all for legal immigration.

I have no idea what “unrestricted legal” immigration is.

To be honest, it is more of a concept than a number. I believe we have the room and capability to create infrastructure for tens of millions of new legal immigrants who have been examined and vetted and wish to be productive parts of the American dream here. They would support out tax base, shore up Social Security demographically and financially, and encourage others to do the same. They could also help in the task of removing the ones who do not aspire to assimilate and be productive.

The term should be “expanded” I think.

I’ve heard the saying.
I also don’t believe we can maintain our position of strength in the world to be able to be left alone to prosper with even the most optimistic of native birthrate projections here.
Many disagree with this as an approach to strengthen our demographics. What are the alternatives instead?
‘ve been wrong before and Ill listen and consider other ideas that may be better. I wont name call those of different opinions as it distracts and odes not help the situation. Numbers mean something and the numbers are off kilter for our country to thrive and expand. I want the US to greatly expand domestic manufacturing and lead the world in producing products, done with cheap US energy and a workforce that becomes larger, skilled and productive. I’ve been buying Japanese cars because the build quality is exceptional and they need far fewer repairs and are more reliable. I want US to have the best build quality, reliability and longevity in the cars WE build here. I think it can be done if it is a priority.

Do we still need to increase our birthrate and replacement of taxpayers to keep our system from failing? How might we do so instead of by immigration numbers? Looking for ideas to kick around and glad to have suggestions. Not confident the US can increase its birthrate enough to help. Our politicians seem satisfied to spend us into default rather than take any level of immediate pain to correct our budget numbers. That would likely mean the US and world defaulting into a world wide great depression again when we fail and take others with. Likely a world war or two as those seem to go with great depressions. I refuse to believe there is no solution short of letting it all collapse. How do we know something as good would arise from our ashes?

What is “expanded” legal immigration?

It’s either legal or it’s not.

No

All you are doing is kicking the can down the road.

When the new immigrants don't have enough children, then what? Bring in more immigrants? Then more, then more, until what, the United States has 1-2 Billion people.

And BTW, if you look deep into the birthrates, Conservatives are replacing ourselves, it's the selfish and decadent Liberals who aren't having children.

Our low birthrate is a direct consequence of anti-family government policies.

Get rid of the welfare state, the high-taxes, and get rid of the porn industry and hook-up culture, people would find their soulmates and have large families.

This is what Hungary is doing, prioritizing and paying couples to have children.

We don't need any more 3rd world foreigners here and the ones here should be repatriated back to their ancestral homelands.

I agree with all of those actions. Are any or all of them possible before we fail utterly as a nation? If not, time to consider interim measures or we still fail.
