I've not know Mark Halperin to have a good track record with breaking news. So let's take this with a grain of salt. And, to have someone like OBiden to drop out of the race requires, well, let's go with what James Woods said on Twitter:

"I loathe Joseph Biden. He has been a cancer to our Republic for over half a century. Everything he has ever done has been at the bidding of his party, always putting their power over any devotion to America first.

That said, he is still the President of the United States, as gruesome a reality as that may be. In what universe does Nancy Pelosi or any other swamp creature from the Democrat Party cesspool in Washington have the right to decide he must step down as president, simply because he is doing poorly in the polls? Is there not a single Democrat who can remind these monsters that we have a Constitution and a process by which our leaders are chosen? More importantly we have processes in place by which our leaders are likewise removed from office. Democrats have consistently abused those processes in their unabashed ongoing coup against President Trump, while he was in office, and now that he is running for office once again. Those efforts have alarmed and disturbed many decent Americans. The best among us believe in our country above party. As painful as it is to say this, I believe the effort to remove Joseph Biden from office without due process of the law is literally a coup against the sitting president and must be fought against as vigorously as we would fight against the coup of a president we love. These wild insurrections by Democrats against current President Biden and former President Donald Trump must stop. Democrats must obey the rule of law and honor the Constitution of the United States of America, or this nation is going to be in the same turbulent state it was in 164 years ago. And that is a price we simply cannot afford.

There is a constitutional process to remove a sitting president, and to ignore it would be the true “threat to democracy.”

Thoughts?

Sure reads like a forced insurrection.

Woods make good points—but Democrats are raw evil and the rules don’t apply to them.

Very well said. We must not allow any president to be deposed, no matter if we support him or not.

Yeah, but since SloJoe and the "doctor" both claim the same state of permanent residence, they would lose Delaware's 3 electoral votes.  /s

a sad grim pathetic end to his political career.

No, it is a fitting end to a pathetic, narcissistic blowhard. I love it.

Johnson did not step aside as a candidate till the end of March 1968 after most of the states had made a decision. Johnson supported Humphrey for President so he got Johnson’s Delegates.

On March 31, Johnson spoke to the nation of “Steps to Limit the War in Vietnam”. He then announced an immediate unilateral halt to the bombing of North Vietnam and announced his intention to seek out peace talks anywhere at any time. At the close of his speech he announced, “I shall not seek, and I will not accept, the nomination of my party for another term as your President”.[250]

He definitely does make great points. But, if one is to believe the report, Biden is not resigning the presidency. He is only going to give up his bid for 2024.

Oh my. 😱

Kamala will agree to 25th him, Only if “they” coronate her, and let the Democrat Convention vote her out and someone else in.

Arrogance knows no bounds. She must believe she can win the nomination and use the Convention to decide her VP?

How crazy things are!!

Ol' Joe looked incredibly frail yesterday.  If this report is accurate, I believe Act II will be SloJoe assuming room temperature prior to the election.

It will be the Wellstone memorial redux.  Instead of "Win one for the Gipper", the rally cry could be "Win one for the Sniffer".

Yup—and then Robert Kennedy started winning some primaries and appeared on the way to be the nominee and the next president....

Actually. I never thought Biden would run for a second term - he was just there to trick older white voters in 2020 into thinking he represented some kind of continuity back to the “civility” of the 70’s. But Jill apparently decided to run for a second term as First Lady without checking with the DNC. :)

James Woods is right - Joe is the chosen nominee. Even his withdrawal makes the DNC look very bad for allowing him to get this far. His heroic death next week after a tough fight with COVID - “a disease Donald Trump doesn’t even care about!” - would serve the party much better. They could blame his senility on long COVID and claim nobody could have seen this result coming.

Mark Halperin was a prominent national media figure at one time. I seem to remember him getting dumped by his network employer over some kind of #MeToo type of scandal.

It’s my understanding that pledged delegates must vote for their candidate on the first round. No deviation is permitted. And the superdelegates can only vote starting with the second round. That second round starts a free for all.

Biden has way more than enough pledged delegates to win on the first round. So the 2024 nomination is his unless he releases his delegates, or the DNC changes the rules at the last minute.

A last-minute rule change might be to allow pledged delegates to vote as they wish starting on the first round.

That could derail Biden if he refuses to bow out. It would also make a mockery of the primary process.

Biden will announce his withdrawal as soon as Sunday.

What a weenie prediction. "As soon as Sunday." So if it happens in a week, or in three weeks, he can still claim he was right?
It's like saying "I will die... as soon as tomorrow." How insightful.

And if it never happens, no one will remember him making that prediction and hold him to it.

I thought Jill and Joe hated both the Obamas over their shabby treatment of the when he was VP? Jill hates Kamala too?
