BETHEL PARK, Pa. – Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20-year-old would-be assassin who opened fire on former President Donald Trump's Pennsylvania campaign rally Saturday, hid the weapon in advance, according to a Secret Service source.
It was not immediately clear where he hid it, however. By the time agents spotted him on the roof, he was already holding it.
"We went from golf range finder to AR-15, and now we have to fill in the gap," the source told Fox News

He knew he could not get the rifle through the metal detector and bag search. So he may have visited the fairgrounds a couple of days in advance and hid the rifle under some leaves in the surrounding woods a few hundred yards from the stage. FBI should have done a sweep but I don’t know if sniffer dogs would detect a rifle.
If it were a U-Haul, it would likely be all lettered up.
The video of it getting hauled off didn’t show any logos.
It was white, like many commercial trucks and could be part of another rental fleet.
Other rental companies could have lots of AZ plates, like U-Haul does.
