A very pleasant good Thursday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country.

Getting ready to head to the dentist for my appointment this morning.

The corn doesn’t need rain any more. It’s reached the end of growing time now. Even with regular rain, it would be dying now. Time for it to start drying out for harvest in the fall. Everything else needs rain though.

The cooler temps are definitely appreciated though! It’s still going to be warm but not sweltering and I can live with warm.

Nice to see y’all have been getting some decent rain at long last. Coming down the right way too. Not all at once where it runs off but a little at a time so it soaks in. It’s already a lot greener around the airports.

Wisconsin Veterans Story Project: WWII Veteran Bill Pekrul

What to know about Milwaukee’s Bill Pekrul, a decorated WWII veteran and RNC speaker

https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/local/milwaukee/2024/07/17/what-to-know-about-wwii-veteran-rnc-speaker-william-pekrul-of-milwaukee/74441217007/

Pekrul also described his time serving in Belgium, when his feet froze overnight after a heroic act. He had pulled his platoon leader, who had been shot, into a basement, where they waited all night in below-zero temperatures as German soldiers walked across the floors above. Pekrul survived and was awarded the Silver Star for the act.

He spent a month-and-a-half in an English hospital, where his feet healed. He then went back into the 75th Infantry and fought until the war’s end. He was discharged in 1946 and met his wife one week after he returned. They have been married for 76 years & have 11 children.
