Do you agree with Home Depot’s decision to fire this woman for what she said about Trump?

And some entitled main character decided to go to her workplace and harass her.
“And some entitled main character decided to go to her workplace and harass her.”
As is his right. I’m glad he did. I hope she is so upset that she _______.
I didnt see the facebook post, but the X video is with her in a store uniform representing Home Depot.
Most of us work in an ‘at will’ environment. We can quit anytime. The employer can let you go anytime for cause. You want to give an employer the easiest of excuses to fire you? Do something that makes the employers brand look bad.
I have mixed thoughts on this firing. If she was working at the time and saying this, then she’s terminated. However, if she is on her own time and not breaking the law she should have the right of free speech. If employers now have control over their employees speech and politics when they are on their own time are they employees or serfs?
Yes, I agree.
She’d fit right in at some leftist university or in the public schools.
The main thing is with a TOS agreement in order to participate they can’t use anything that is gathered in a private organization domain that does not have general public access. They have to legally agree not not take it out in order to register as a member which protects what folks want to say.
I am speaking in general for all conservative domains. And if they pass the new internet control bill they want to pass, the only way to skirt it will be to close the front doors from public access and have an 18 years old or older disclaimer to register as a member.
And this might actually have a silver lining. Like in the case of the FR. Those who lurk outside read and never log in will have to log in and participate. More participation, more interest in the site, more members will join, and the more donations it will receive. While protecting the members at the same time.
Pretty soon having a Conservative or Christian site open and viewable by the general public is going to become a detriment to the domain and all the members. It is an option that cannot be dismissed even if temporary until this election is over.
Well said.
“ Otherwise, it’s all free speech.”
Advocating for violence and murder IS NOT free speech.
If she had said that Trump should be in jail…that’s free speech and opinion. If she is advocating for Trump to be murdered, that is not .
And yes, Home Depot was both well within bounds and very wise to fire her.
businesses do what businesses do. No freedom of speech at work.
She expressed support for violence against her political opponents.
That is about as low as you can go in a democratic society.
People also may be missing the point that she could have been a lousy employee, late to work, bad attitude and so forth. Because she was old, fat and a woman, they were hesitant to fire. A manager had just been waiting for an excuse to terminate and she gave it on a platter.
Ok. So then we can send some unhinged leftist to harass you at your job for something that the liberal disagrees with. Got it. Where do you work? This will be fun.
I disagree with Home Depot, just as strongly as I disagree with the woman’s comments.
Western civilization did not rise on any belief in “hate speech”. It rose on beliefs of Liberty allowing full freedom of speech and leaders willing to defend to the death the right for an opinion they hugely disagree with to still be heard.
And if Christians face repercussions for not wanting to bake cakes for homosexuals and standing on convictions on abortion, then these people should face repercussions for wishing death on a former president. Big yes on that.
I believe in free speech, too. She was completely free to say what she said. She is not, however, free from the consequences of what she said.
It would help to know what she said.
No info video postings are killing FR.
Yes, I disagree...
HD should have used her to demo the efficiency of the woodchippers line up in front of the store...
However, once the video gets posted to X for nationwide consumption, then she in her Home Depot apron becomes a notorious apparition. She should have had enough sense to immediately resign, rather than face continuous legitimate harassment. The decision to fire her seems reasonable based on her inadvertently becoming an advertisement for the company. Somewhere in the personnel manual there should a statement limiting free speech when it can be associated with the business.
This reminds me of the reaction in Eugene Oregon to Reagan’s attempted assassination. The citizens of Eugene often referred to him as a fascist and much displeasure was expressed about his survival. As a Vietnam vet before it became popular, I was a subject and not a citizen. My opinions were often not appreciated.
The best reason to fire such posters is to prevent future shootings at the workplace. There have been many disgruntled employees who have shot up their workplace. The employee’s pro-murder post shouldn’t be ignored by any company management.
