The local Pennsylvania sheriff defended the armed officer who encountered former President Donald Trump’s would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks on the rooftop moments before the shooting — claiming it was the right call to retreat after the gunman pointed the weapon at him.
Butler County Sheriff Michael Slupe confirmed Monday that a local officer made contact with Crooks after being hoisted up to the roof by another officer — but fled when the sniper pointed his AR-style assault rifle at the officer.
“I would have done the same thing, absolutely,” the sheriff said.
comment. “All I know is the officer had both hands on the roof to get up on the roof, never made it because the shooter had turned towards the officer, and rightfully and smartly, the officer let go,” Slupe told KDKA.
The gunman immediately fired up to eight rounds at Trump, wounding him and killing a hero firefighter in the stands. Two others were also wounded.

I’m sure he would have liked to as well. I guess initially he had to use both hands to pull himself up.
“”It sounds like he was actually climbing up to get on top of the roof and still hanging there, legs swinging, when the confrontation occurred. So probably not in a position to reach for his gun or fire on the guy.””
I read it the same way - his hands were used/needed for climbing with help from someone else. It was thought perhaps there was an entry onto the roof from inside that building and the shooter could have gotten on the roof that way but other reports mention him climbing...how, I have no idea..others assumed a ladder? Lots of conjecture!
This brave sheriff is unlikely to be reelected....
I hope the families of the victims sue this county’s sheriff’s dept to death. And, note to locals... elect someone brave, or don’t sleep at night.
I have a friend of mine who confronted a vietcong popping up 15 feet away. He didn’t duck and run, He shot the baztard and took a 7.62 AK round to his shoulder for his effort. They dont make men like that anymore.
I once watched a video where a cop was talking to an (evidently) unarmed gang-banger. Smiles all around. Then the cop searched the gang-banger. Turns out the thug had a rifle stuffed down one pant leg.
So I can see how rifle guy could get past lax event security. However, there is NO EXCUSE for law enforcement not securing that roof, or later on not noticing rifle guy there.
This is either incredible incompetence or a set-up. But since the Deep State is very good at covering itself, we will never know for sure. And our grandchildren won’t know, either.
That’s how I read the blurb
> If he’d have missed, he’d be endangering everyone down range. <
True that. But I still think taking a pot shot at rifle guy was the correct thing to do. In some situations there are no good options. You just pick the best of the bad options.
What a mess, regardless.
Just what rifle was it? Tell us you assholes!
Everything is an AR style weapon these days because they
want to make mileage off every mention of it in the news.
Could have been a 22 long rifle load, and these pussified
bull-shet artists would still name it an AR style weapon.
On RAV this morning, Erik Prince was brutal about what should happen to this cop.
So both of you are cowards.
Its a shame that law enforcement is so appealing to cowards and pusss$$s
PA, you have a police problem.
Not my area of expertise — and I certainly understand that “firing into the air” or “shoot to wound” are questionable tactics that can go badly ...
But if the SS sniper had fired a shot 10 feet away from the sniper, it seems like it would have accomplished 2 things:
1) Shaken up the sniper and dissuaded him from doing anything rash
2) Alerted the Secret Service on the stage who could have hustled Trump to safety.
My current position is that the poor performance shows that the FBI and Secret Service were actively involved in a plot to kill Trump. I’ll need really solid evidence to change my mind.
All Barney Fifes went home safe.
The cop caused a death and several injuries because he is a chicken $#it Idiot.
It definitely wasn’t a .22LR. Way too much velocity left at 130 yards.
My bet is 55 grain .223/5.56, only because that’s most common for an AR15. From little you can see of the front sight it looks an AR15 to me, but I am just some obamahole on the Internet making guesses.
I would hate to be the one answering the phone at the Butler PD.
Next time the Rebels will take over Pennsylvania without having to fire a shot.
