Before the attempt on Donald Trump’s life, while questions raged about the health of President Joe Biden, officials downplayed the importance of the physical leader. White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters to look at the administration, not the man. “What we are saying,” she said, “is there are results, his record.” As my podcast partner Walter Kirn wrote, we were “being introduced to the idea that the presidency is a diffuse impersonal ‘office,’ and the bucks stops nowhere that is… conventionally identifiable.”
But we live in a physical world, and individuals still matter. Official actions betray this more than anything else. When a populist movement built on frustration over decades of misrule began having electoral success, they created a legend that the backlash was irrational and the fault of one Donald Trump, building him into a figure of colossal art, a super-Hitler. It became cliché that he was the embodiment of all evil and needed to be stopped “at all costs.” By late last year, mainstream press organizations were saying legal means had failed, and more or less openly calling for a truly final solution to the Trump problem.
Now he’s been shot, in an incident that’s left two dead. . .

Thank you.
Appreciate your post
Extremely good article!!!
We should resume calling the “mainstream press” what Rush often called them: the drive-by media
Biden kept escalating his rhetoric against Trump, claiming that Trump and his supporters “represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic,” while warning that “equality and democracy are under assault.”
Biden’s X account was full of such language.
Biden even used the threatening phrase “putting Trump in the crosshairs”-——
meaning being aimed at by a gun, such as a rifle that has an aiming device with crosshairs.
Crosshairs are a pair of fine wires or lines crossing at right angles.....
the focus of a gun sight, for use in positioning and aiming at a target.
“Biden kept escalating his rhetoric against Trump,”
Biden my arse. It was Obama and Biden’s other Marxist handlers, who are now incurring their most deserved comeuppance.
When the Tea Party movement started achieving success, it was watered down by social conservatives and libertarians whose efforts had been floundering in comparison.
There is a group who also fear populism who have tried to tie themselves to Trump's populist movement even though they fear populism more than anything else.
It seems that they have been successful in latching on to Trump and will most likely be the main reason that a second Trump presidency will only achieve partial success.
Not to be overly pedantic.... :-) If that's the one I think you mean, Biden actually said:
"It’s time to put Trump in a bullseye."Same general meaning, of course, except that "crosshairs" (what you described) are indeed a pair of orthoganal fine lines. A "bullseye" target is a set of concentric circles, with the center circle often being called "the bullseye". Some bullseye targets also have radiating lines, such as a dart board, but the center is a cicle.
I know, picky, picky....:-)
“It was Obama and Biden’s other Marxist handlers”
It was Obama’s and Biden’s Marxist handlers
Are you always this anal? Or does it crop up on you every now and then?
I'd be happy with a four-year slowdown of the WEF / globalist agenda.
I’ll settle for partial success as long as the national decline (long bend toward socialism) is slowed down. Trump cannot reverse the damage done in his one term allowed. But getting on the right track again would do wonders. We’re outnumbered and the cavalry isn’t coming.
“The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice”
MATT TAIBBI!
Oh my, an interesting writer in many directions.
Reading him it may be best to keep his history in mind as you read.
‘Matt Taibbi is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.’
Thank you.
Thank you
“Besides the elites who necessarily hate populism”
They surely embraced populism when 44 was in office.
Sorry, didn't mean to offend. I assumed you're familiar with the :-) emoticon, meaning "no offense intended, please take it lightly".
Anyway, in times when so much of what we read and pass along is unclear or inaccurate, my instinct is to find a reputable original source, rather than rely on something passed "down the lane", etc. Biden's actual statement is available from numerous reputable sources.
So much for trying to be helpful; I'll know better.
This is bare-handed politics, man......suspend disbelief and to hell with the rules.
Indeed.
BTW, I enjoy your posts on these threads. Carry on!
