Former President Donald Trump will announce his vice presidential pick Monday, he told Fox this morning.
Trump has long teased who his running mate will be and has yet to reveal who it is, or specifically comment on who is strongly in consideration. Sources close to the Trump campaign previously told The Post that Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum are his top contenders, as well as Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).
His announcement lines up with the first day of the Republican National Convention, and comes two days after a gunman shot Trump in the ear at a Pennsylvania rally, nearly missing his head.

DeSantis is from the same state as Trump. That would have been a mess.
Since the Vice President doesn’t actually have much to do, Trump should pick someone who he trusts and make the VP the attack dog against the deep state. Basically hand them a big hammer and empower the VP to show up various agencies at will to investigate, confiscate, arrest and perform all types of mayhem. “Hello director so an so. Looking at Trump's past VP and cabinet has taught me that political experience throws turds on the resume. Look at how much I and many FReepers thought highly of Trump's AG pick Sessions. Look at Trump's VP Pence. We can't stand them now.
But look at Trump and Carson (HUD Sec) and Brouillette (Energy Sec): none of whom had prior political positions. All of them did well.
