United Airlines Boeing flight lands in Denver after losing a wheel in Los Angeles
CBS ^ | 7/8/24 | Austin Erblat

Officials at Denver International Airport said United Flight 1001 -- a Boeing 757-200 -- landed at DIA just before 11 a.m. after a wheel on the rear landing gear fell off the plane upon takeoff at LAX. No injuries were reported among the 174 passengers or seven crewmembers.

United says an investigation is now ongoing to determine what caused the wheel to fall off. The wheel has since been recovered in Los Angeles.

Allen Stubblefield was traveling from southern California to Iowa with a connecting flight in Denver. He flies for work often and has never been part of an emergency landing. He said the takeoff felt completely normal but bout halfway through the flight, the pilot got on the PA to say they'd be doing an emergency landing into Denver.

My wife and I were talking about a vacation this morning and I told her it needed to be somewhere within driving distance for just this reason.

Boeing is having some issues, but you're still far less likely to die in a plane than a car. There are, of course, other good reasons to prefer car travel over plane travel.

Seems to be some maintenance issues. This isn’t Boeings fault.

Tires falling off the Boeing planes could be gathered to make a theme park in Allen Park, Michigan. The former World’s Fair ferris wheel was made into a huge tire ad off I-94.

Still there.

DEI vs Sabotage, or is it both? Enquiring minds want to know.

I wonder if something is wrong with Boeing’s maintenance procedures.

Not if you follow them.

Not everybody does.

“Hello, Boeing Airlines? I found that lost wheel that was in the news last week. I thought maybe it was a meteor. It destroyed my chicken coop. Now most of the hens are too scared to lay eggs. Do I get a reward for finding your vwheel? I’d settle for being reimbursed for cost of the coop.”

"I am just glad I don't do air travel anymore."

I hear 'ya. Spent 20 years flying 10 - 20 times a year. Mainly Delta domestically, but others for overseas.

Never had any glaring maintenance issues back then.

My daughter frequently flies for her job, and for pleasure. God protect her, and anyone else who flies.

So the DEI, open immigration, COVID shutdown policy to destroy the middle class and get cheap labor needs some fine tuning.

When they were on their final descent, Stubblefield said the a flight attendant got on the PA and said “brace, brace, brace.”

“It was not the smoothest landing and I didn’t expect that,” Stubblefield said. “There was a bump, but that was it.”
