United Airlines Boeing flight lands in Denver after losing a wheel in Los Angeles
CBS ^ | 7/8/24 | Austin Erblat

Officials at Denver International Airport said United Flight 1001 -- a Boeing 757-200 -- landed at DIA just before 11 a.m. after a wheel on the rear landing gear fell off the plane upon takeoff at LAX. No injuries were reported among the 174 passengers or seven crewmembers.

United says an investigation is now ongoing to determine what caused the wheel to fall off. The wheel has since been recovered in Los Angeles.

Allen Stubblefield was traveling from southern California to Iowa with a connecting flight in Denver. He flies for work often and has never been part of an emergency landing. He said the takeoff felt completely normal but bout halfway through the flight, the pilot got on the PA to say they'd be doing an emergency landing into Denver.

My wife and I were talking about a vacation this morning and I told her it needed to be somewhere within driving distance for just this reason.

She asked why.

I told her that Boeing was having a lot of problems with their aircraft.

With the way things are going it is only a matter of time before one of these things ends tragically

"...but bout halfway through the flight"

I can see why they turned around -- a pugilistic match broke out in the aisle.

They had to get Boeing in the headline because there aren’t enough shark attacks in Florida yet.

You found a fine time to leave me, loose wheel...

But let’s remember Boeing’s saying: When a door closes, another opens.

“...a wheel on the rear landing gear fell off the plane upon takeoff at LAX...”

A: How did they know? [AI reviews the video of all takeoffs now?]

B: Reviews of lug nut torques indicated DEI activity?

C: The tire failed in some fashion?

D: Other?

And not just their aircraft. Did you hear about the Boeing spacecraft that developed helium leaks? And now two astronauts are stuck at the International Space Station, because they don’t know if it is safe to come back in that spacecraft.

Is it now a rule to insert “Boeing” into every headline involving an aviation mishap?

I don’t feel sorry for Boeing, not by a long shot, but still.

This seems contrived.

I was about to say the same thing. Is someone out to destroy Boeing?

From the article: "Stubblefield said he heard no complaints or panicking from passengers."

Yeah, well, they're not the ones with an aircraft wheel and tire falling on their heads.

Between blown hatches, ejected emergency slide, and disconnected wheels, fatalities on the ground are likely to be the next fatalities caused by the Didn't Earn It (DEI) hires in the aircraft maintenance industry.

We will probably end up paying the Russians to bring them home.

Which is great when we are in a proxy war with them.

Last week and after it was fully loaded, a Southwest Boeing plane heading for Orlando realized that it had a problem with its door. All passengers had to get off and find another flight. I wonder if something is wrong with Boeing’s maintenance procedures.

Possibly, but since two separate whistleblowers against Boeing have died within the last four months, something seems awfully suspicious.
