Armed guards escort some South Bay delivery drivers due to crime concerns. ( San Jose, California )
NBC News ^ | July 2, 2024 | Damian Trujillo

Delivery drivers in the South Bay say they're increasingly worried about becoming robbery targets.

It's happening enough that at least one company, Core Mart, is now hiring armed guards to escort its drivers.

...

Flavio Lopez works for another delivery company and said he wishes he had a guard or at least a second person to help him keep an eye on the merchandise. Lopez hasn’t been robbed, but he has had run-ins downtown.

"Stuff you gotta deal with downtown," he said. "It is what it is."

Darrell Cortez, a retired San Jose police officer who now works in corporate and retail security, said, "Unfortunately, this is what society has become now with armed guards guarding merchandise from the retailer because there seems to be a sense of lawlessness in our society."

...

"It's very unfortunate," he added. "You and I pay for it. The consumer pays for it on the backend because prices increase because the merchandise is going out the door and no one is stopping the bad guys because of the threat of violence."

Cortez said if one company is using guards to protect drivers, others are likely considering it to keep their drivers and products from being targeted.

This is how Democrats "create good jobs." I saw this in The Home Depot this weekend. I was buying a tape measure. It was locked up. Not only did an attendant have to unlock it, but they took the tape to a front desk to wait for me while I finished shopping. Once I had what I needed, I went to the checkout line and it took TWO people to find it and hand it to me so that I could buy it.

The marginal cost of all that handling and extra security is passed on to the "consumer." It's a tax that habituates these people to be overlords and watchers, preserving the "security" of authority.

As a college student worker I delivered Wayne State University campus mail all over the campus in Detroit during the July, 1967 riots and after.

We had a city police officer ride standing on the front seat running board of the mail truck as we hopped off and on going to various blocks.
He said firmly “Keep looking upward and watch for snipers. I mean it.” He had a rifle at a 45 degree angle.

I thought it was exciting and fun. I was young.
43 died and it wasn’t that way for them.

My supermarket (A&P) next to my apartment building was used for national pictures on news reports because of it being a blackened, burned out shell with a few metal cables dangling from the burned ceilings.

Photo of attacked Republican woman....

Thanks for reminding us.

Hopefully it will churn up some anger among people who want to turn the other cheek to Dems and other Commies.

I am not guilty of that.

If an ARMED GUARD is going with the drivers what is to keep other drivers from being their own armed guards? Why cannot the General Public go armed against the crazies and criminals?

Fifty years ago tourists to the US were afraid to go out side of their hotels due to TV shows about all the crime in the US. They had to be assured that was only in movie and TV scripts.
But that was fifty years ago. Now it is dangerous to go out in a democrat controlled city. Some Republican controlled cities are not much safer.
I no longer go unarmed to big cities and never go out without firepower after dark even in our local towns.

In 1989 I rode a bicycle across the ithsmus of Mexico and I saw a Coca-Cola delivery truck with two armed Federales riding on the top of the box. At the time I laughed to myself, “Only in Mexico.”

“Why cannot the General Public go armed against the crazies and criminals?”

The delivery company is transferring the liability for using a gun to another entity. If they just armed their drivers, then they’d have the liability for a defense situation. The opposing attorney would claim the driver, even if he was trained, was just an ordinary person and using a gun was not part of his job and therefore the driver and his company are liable for injuring my poor, sweet, former convict who was just getting his life together and was a promising upcoming rap star.

There was a time when California was considered the Golden State-Most beautiful, best weather, it had literally everything going for it.

Then came Democrats taking over the entire place.

They DESTROYED it. It's what they do.

Keep voting Democrat California.
