On July 6, due to an ongoing electric power issue, Amtrak canceled service between Boston and New York City for the remainder of the day.
Amtrak is communicating directly with impacted customers about this service interruption and offering options for rebooking their travel plans. Amtrak apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the disruption. Our crews are working hard to correct the issues.
We are paying the price for electing “green” politicians.
Amtrak Joe is also out of service.
The catenary wire was installed between 1906 and 1910 in that stretch of track. It’s old.
The hamsters at the powerhouse went on strike.
AKA normal service? Braking news.
Mayor Pete will get right on this, too.
June 20, 2024, .. Stranded NJ Transit, Amtrak commuters face long waits after all service halted for second time in a week..
circuit breaker problem
And the catenary system for that stretch of track was installed in 1933. It’s old too.
They should call “Engineer Joe” in from his day job; He’ll fix it.
Get out and push. Try to jumpstart it. Pop the clutch. Or put a diesel or steam engine on it.
I commuted between Grand Central and Fairfield CT 1974-82.
New, fully enclosed air conditioned cars were replaced the former open door cars in about 1975.
Summers were especially brutal because the power service was incapable of powering the new cars with ac. Often, there were long delays around Greenwich due to power over loads.
Kind of like when automobiles are all EV
There is no overhead wire dating that far back where Amtrak runs. On the Hell Gate line, the oldest wire would date to 1917, presuming Amtrak did no work there (they did some but not a full rebuild). From Shell interlocking (south of New Rochelle) to the CT border the rails are owned by Metro-North and from the CT border to New Haven by Connecticut DOT, and the wires were replaced approximately 15 years ago IIRC. From New Haven to Boston South Station, the wires date to 1999 when Acela service was inaugurated.
GET US OUT OF OUR CARS & THEN STOP OPERATING THE MASS TRANSIT
HOW DO WE SPEND TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND OUR INFISTRUCTURE IS STILL EARLY 20TH CENTURY!?
This will show some of the cancellations, on the top right:

New Haven to NYC Penn is a major passenger rail artery. How do you shut it down for a major overhaul?
One of my children is booked on an 8:30 am run tomorrow from Penn Station to Boston.
Needless to say Amtrak has no information.
Any idea if the schedule will run tomorrow, or how to find out?
