Well, I hope the French election on Sunday offers a faint glimmer of hope. Across the United Kingdom almost every constituency voted for lefties of various stripes - not just victorious Labour lefties, but also Scots nationalist lefties, Irish republican lefties, eco-lefties, Islamo-lefties and, of course, duplicitous pseudo-conservative lefties: you can get it in any colour as long as it's red. So, if you're one of those Britons concerned about, say, transformative mass migration or the right to freedom of speech, things are going to spend the next few years getting worse before there is any prospect of course correction.
This is squarely on the UK's hideous and repellent "Conservative and Unionist" party, which as a practical matter is neither. Effective politicians don't "move towards the centre"; they move the centre towards them, as Mrs Thatcher and President Reagan did. Instead, the Conservatives squandered fourteen years playing on the left's terms, and the result is a political culture that has never been less conservative, and a land where nothing works, from the creepily fetishised National Health Service to the wanker constabulary.
So Rishi Rich's party was pushed down to its worst ever result - worse than Balfour in 1906, if such comparisons are even relevant in a demographically transformed Britain.

It’s a glorious day in the EU. Now stand back with me and watch the place burst into flames. From there, decent people will rebuild a sane continent from the ashes.
For the most part, they are old and have no guns while the Muzzies breed like rabbits. From what I can tell, things will go from bad to worse.
Bush Sr. had the same problem in 1992. He had won on Reagan’s coattails 4 years earlier by campaigning as a Reagan-conservative, but then governed as an ideal moderate, to the point that Clinton got to his right on just about every major issue, starting with tax cuts and welfare reform.
McCain was even better at screwing up. He pissed off his base just prior to the 2008 campaign season by demanding ‘comprehensive immigration reform’ non-stop, then pissed them off again by distancing himself from what he considered the ‘extreme elements’ of the Republican Party - that being Reagan voters. In a last, desperate gamble, he did take Palin (an actual conservative) on the ticket, but also made it clear that he despised her. All the while he didn’t seem to even notice that he had to actually beat Obama to get into the White House, and instead was more interested in ‘reforming’ the Republican base.
The take away from Steyn’s article is that while the Left and the not so Left fight over the spoils, the Islamists move inextricably toward gaining the critical control necessary where they can no longer be ignored in British politics. As Steyn points out, the Islamist are now where Farage was in his current bid to gain a meaningful political influence just a short while ago. If the Islamist continue their forward march, Farage and British elections of any kind won’t matter an iota in the future.
Well someone has to save the empire. Right?
Rishi Sunak should be a huge warning for all of the Freepers who are gay for Vivek.
The British just ushered in the most extreme hard-Left government in history....Starmer's Socialist Utopia is forth coming !
....soaring taxes, uncontrolled immigration, rampant wokery, amnesty to illegals there, rigged elections, Left-wing judges, trans fanatics,.....and this is the guy who wanted to overturn the result of the Brexit referendum.....
People try to insist that Palin killed McCain’s chances. I contend she’s the only one who gave him a chance in hell.
1- Brit conservatives are radical socialists who never saw a govt program they didn’t live.
2- There is no possibility of a course correction. In Britain any speech the govt doesn’t like is suppressed. Even jail time for Internet posts the Gestapo doesn’t like.
I disagree. Rishi is like Mitt Romney. Vivek is like Trump.
“People try to insist that Palin killed McCain’s chances. I contend she’s the only one who gave him a chance in hell.”
Nicole Wallace spread that around. Then she got hired by her real friends.
“People try to insist that Palin killed McCain’s chances. I contend she’s the only one who gave him a chance in hell.”
ABSOLUTELY - If McCain thought he could put together a victory coalition without the Republican base, he would have taken Romney or someone like that for VP.
Those claiming that Palin hurt him are doing that to discount the value of the Republican base (for obvious reasons).
OY!
A properly deployed and used Sarah Palin and McCain would have won. Looking back on McCain's campaign, I don't believe he wanted to win.
I absolutely agree. He was so image conscious he didn’t want to be the guy who beat the black guy...But I also don’t think he could win anyway. Campaign finance reform was not on the peoples’ radar and as we all know it just led to more money than ever in politics
