The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) launched an investigation into the death of a major general, officials said Tuesday, after the officer's body was found on the Twentynine Palms marine base in California over the weekend.
Details about the death of Maj. Gen. William Mullen have not been disclosed so far, but the retired officer was discovered dead on the base on Saturday, according to the Los Angeles Times. NCIS is a law enforcement agency for the Department of the Navy that leads criminal investigations and probes noncombat deaths of Navy sailors and Marines.

Mullen previously served as the commander of the base before he retired in 2020, and served multiple tours of the Middle East. He also served as a Marine aide to former President Bill Clinton, and led a counternarcotics mission in the Los Padres National Forest, which is located in Southern and Central California.

That was my first thought too. I retired about the same time the report says he retired and, if I had next to no life after that, even though I've never been a depressive person, I would have got really depressed. Even though I'm fighting cancer, I have a loving family and my Church ministry.
Maybe he ended it all at the place he last felt some sense of self worth. Unless he left a note, we'll probably never know. Thank you for your service, sir, and may you rest in peace.
Duckie’s dead.....................
Big fan of the first several seasons. Thanks for the “Duckie” info.
Found this in the middle of news about investigations - 59 seems rather young - I think I saw that he was deployed to Iraq multiple times - which isn’t surprising

““Training is being altered to comply with COVID-19 protocols set by the CDC, no training standards program instructions or graduation requirements are being altered or reduced,” Maj. Gen.William F. Mullen, the commanding general for Marine Corps Training and Education Command, told reporters at a Pentagon briefing Tuesday.”
You are absolutely right. I retired in 2014 as a Commander and I am still adjusting. We get this itch every two years to change things becasue of the cycle we were on in the military. Has affected my mental health to the point I have quit several high paying Corporate jobs becasue I just cannot adjust to that lifestyle. I started out enlisted in 1987 and spent a little over 27 years in the military. I have several O-6 and O-7 retired friends who are really struggling.
> I remember David McCallum from The Man From U.N.C.L.E. — that was decades ago. <
From Wikipedia’s entry on McCallum:
In Season 2 Episode 13 “The Meat Puzzle”, NCIS Special Agent Caitlin Todd (Sasha Alexander) asks Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon), “What did Ducky look like when he was younger?” and Gibbs replies, “Illya Kuryakin”.
LOL...I love those insider quips like that. I wonder how many people got it when it aired?
Interesting. Thanks for sharing. 🙂👍
Well there’s a blast from the past.
I considered Ilya a cool guy, even had the Man From UNCLE toy gun, for a time, in 1966...
Of course it seemed like Robert Vaughan had more action going with the girls, for some reason. In 1966.
He is the very model of the modern major-general ...
“… and led a counternarcotics mission in the Los Padres National Forest…”
Payback?
Rule #5
Former aid to Bill Clinton: as many “friends of Bill” end up.
My payback? Or payoff from other players?
What - no clot-shot questions?
We did.
The slowdown in daily tempo can be stark.
It’s hot there, heat stroke. Bang.
“We got a dead Marine!”
