Here's why it would be tough for Democrats to replace Joe Biden on the presidential ticket

President Joe Biden's halting debate performance has led some in his own party to begin questioning whether he should be replaced on the ballot before November.

There is no evidence Biden is willing to end his campaign. And it would be nearly impossible for Democrats to replace him unless he chooses to step aside.

Here's why:

Delegates Biden won in the primaries are obligated to support him

*SNIP*

VP Kamala Harris couldn't automatically replace Biden

*SNIP*

Other potential Democratic candidates would also face challenges

In addition to the vice president, others that had endorsed Biden in 2024 while harboring their own presidential aspirations for future cycles include California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Illinois Gov. J. B. Pritzker and California Rep. Ro Khanna.

Still others who Biden bested during the party’s 2020 presidential primary could also try again, including Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, as well as Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

If Biden were to abruptly leave the race, conservative groups have suggested they will file lawsuits around the country, potentially questioning the legality of the Democratic candidate's name on the ballot.

But Elaine Kamarck, a senior fellow in governance studies at the Brookings Institution in Washington, who wrote a book about the presidential nominating process and is also a member of the Democratic National Committee’s rulemaking arm, said that courts have consistently stayed out of political primaries as long as parties running them weren’t doing anything that would contradict other constitutional rights, such as voter suppression based on race.

“This is very clear constitutionally that this is in the party’s purview,” Kamarck said in an interview before the debate. “The business of nominating someone to represent a political party is the business of the political party.”

Biden will do fine. I’ve written the White House several times and told them I thought Joe won the debate and that he needs to hang in there. Go Joe Biden!

Joe or whomever...it doesn’t matter. The dems are confident that they have enough voter fraud in place for him to get close to 90 million votes this time around. We’ll see a lot of overnight dem vote totals zoom up this time just like 2020.

If anyone doesn’t realize the evil that comprises the globohomopedos, isn’t paying attention.

They will assassinate, start wars, etc. to seize power.

They will break any law.

They will subvert elections.

They will subvert a presidency.

They would wipe out half the world population to get their way.

One old man standing in their way is no barrier.

Democrats don't give a rip about obligations, rules, or laws when POWER is at stake.

Sooo… apparently the 25th Amendment is not a consideration and does not come into play? Last night’s debate should end any doubt Biden is incapable of performing tasks other than warming a chair.

Good point - if they really want him gone, I would assume they could invoke 'Catch 25' to move his butt out of the White House, and off the November ballot...

“Delegates Biden won in the primaries are obligated to support him “

“The current rules read: “Delegates elected to the national convention pledged to a presidential candidate shall in all good conscience reflect the sentiments of those who elected them.””

“...(I)n all good conscience...”. What if their “good conscience” (and emails, texts and polling) tells them the “sentiments of those who elected them” have changed? And, since when do democrats feel obligated by the rules?

Yeah not really. Remember all the rules of selecting nominees come from the parties, same with the convention. So delegates are only as obligated as the party says they are. Biden could drop out, new rules could be written, boom all done.

Mind you I don’t think that will happen. But it could quite easily. Even after the convention. Remember Eagleton. And Wellstone. Swap outs happen.

[Biden is very obstinate and bitter and egotistical, among other things. Jill keeps him under her thumb and it will not be easy for them to get him to step aside.]

Why would Jill have to exert any pressure? The presidency is the closest thing to king of the world that anyone can get. There is no upside to getting out. Trump lost popular majorities in two elections. He’s also gaffe-prone. If Biden decides to get out, he truly is senile. If he stays in, he has a shot at a second term. If he gets out, he never will. It really is that simple. His only downside is losing, same as it ever was.

“All that would come back to bite her though, and the media would not be on her side, or at least would not make it easy for her.”

She would be the first Democrat candidate for President that the media did not fawn over outrageously in my lifetime. Of course they would be enthusiastically on her side as the Democrat nominee.

Jump, media. How high?

“But wait. Perhaps the DNC could meet next month and change the rules. . . “

Assemblies and Conventions are often won or lost in the Rules committee.

““The current rules read: “Delegates elected to the national convention pledged to a presidential candidate shall in all good conscience reflect the sentiments of those who elected them.”””

Nice pickup. That’s incredibly floppy. The convention chair could just rule that under the present circumstances, good conscience means delegates are free to vote for someone else.

But you could then get a runaway convention. I’m not sure how you control a very radical group (D Delegates) from nominating a completely insane leftist. Obama and HRC will want control of who gets nominated and they want someone who can pretend to be moderate.

Nope.

In fact, Rutabaga CANNOT be taken off the ballots in WI or NV, and within 4 weeks, not off GA either.

In SC, he can’t be removed at all after the primary.

She’s an idiot and the DemoKKKrats are screwed.
