Right now, MSNBC and CNN post-debate panels are openly talking about options for pressuring Biden to withdraw, or party officials conspiring to replace him at the convention anyway.
I truly believe that convention drama is usually energizing for a party, not demoralizing. And the selection between Kamala Harris and Gavin Newsom would allow Democrats to feel like the party of the future again, rather than a party litigating a recent past that voters hated.
If Biden’s bad performance really does lead to his departure from the race, Republicans will miss him.

Dougherty is right ... If the Dems do replace Biden, whoever they pick will be stronger than Biden... if only be virtue of having brain waves and a FREAKING PULSE.
He would win.
Hmmmmm
I figured that the Dems would off Trump if they could but now it looks like Joe is in first place.
That’s what I think. At this point, their thinking is that letting Trump win may be the best for them long-term.
It will be up to Trump to make sure that won’t be the case, but they will do everything in their power to undermine his Presidency again.
How do they avoid a civil war if they replaced Biden?
I think Newsome failed his chance. The one guy though who I fear is Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear. It wouldn’t take long to introduce him, and people will generally like him, even many Republicans, if folks in Kentucky are any indication.
You think they’re going to bypass a sitting vice president who’s black and female and go with Gavin Newsom who’s like the poster boy for white privilege? And there won’t be a fight.?
Haven’t we had 2 years of economic meltdown?
I think it will be Whitmer or Pritzker
No way they could step over a black female who is already “experienced” to place a white male over her.
Yes, but it could get much MUCH worse. Massive commercial real estate unrealized losses. Inflation is bad no matter what they say. It may not work, but BRICS is trying hard to get away from the dollar. Consumer demand is falling. Nobody can afford a house. 35 trillion in debt, and adding a trillion every hundred days. It was 3 trillion in 1998 when we outspent the USSR.
I think something worse than 2008 is about to hit. I would love to be wrong.
Whitmer for sure. Michigan is a must win state. Pritzker is the Chris Christie of the Dems. Will they dump Harris? If they don’t will she accept second string?
Many laughed at me when I predicted months ago that we will not see Trump v Biden in November. I love being right.
Yep. In their mind he gets two years with constant harassment, stay behind bureaucrats, lawfare, massive protests and boycotts of anyone who wants to serve his administration, all kinds of international cooperation, CIA and FBI sedition, etc...then they take back both houses at the midterm.
It would work well for them.
But that said, I think Trump has the best chance of navigating an economic crisis with as little pain as possible. He would be in his element.
The thing we should be pushing for is 25th Amendment and then Kamala, a certain loser in November, is entrenched by default as the nominee for 2024. They wouldn’t dare dump her as the “incumbent.”
Yeah, there’s larger issues at play than the dems sad attempts at hanging onto power. Something has to be done about the national debt.
Nothing will help the Democrats. It’s the economy, and any of many other reasons from the border to child molestation to queering of America. The Blacks, the Hispanic, and Mom’s with children at risk in woke schools are so fired up, they will never change their mind.
In fact, remove the one who won the primaries, and many leftist Independents will stay home.
Any FReeper worth their salt knows that National Review is steaming pantload.
Certainly since Rich Lowry became editor-in-chief.
well, it IS national review ... my guess, is that ANY winning by Trump would be too much winning by Trump as far as national review is concerned ... perhaps national review believes that Trump should have toned down the winning a bit by deliberately dropping a few balls to make biden look better ...
