California’s massive and ambitious project to connect downtown Los Angeles with the Bay Area via electric trains capable of reaching speeds of over 200 mph has cleared its biggest hurdle to date.
On Thursday, the California High-Speed Rail Authority received complete environmental approval between the two regions, a historic milestone in a state notorious for holding up construction projects for environmental review.

All aboard!!
Maybe a foot was too much to get laid
There are YouTube videos by train enthusiasts about high-speed rail in places like Indonesia and for that matter India. Both very densely populated, with challenging geography and both have managed to get lines running in less time than the California project.
So, it’s been 16 years, billions spent and not a foot of rail laid.” It’s the California Way™”
And, if it were to be built, (again, it will never be completed) then the new problem is that nobody (except for a few purple-haired cat ladies, one time each) wants to take it. I know dozens of Cali progressives, and not one has ever stated that they want, or even will take the "high speed" ha ha "rail".
It will not go as fast as initially stated, (Consider that anyone taking the bullet train will still need to park, clear security, and most likely rent a car at the destination is really taking the slow train) and and the reliability of a fast train on such a long line is, one suspects, likely to be poor.
The cost of construction, operation, and maintenance is so ridiculously high that ticket prices could never compete with the airlines or self-driving.
Deceit.
It's the Dems' middle name.
They are already connected by bullets.
Only took 16 years to get a environmental study done, which I’m sure will get held up in court for another 4-6 years.
They have been working on the bullet train in California since I was in high school 40 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It will be known as the Narco Express Line...
Are there still virtually no stops between Palm Beach and Orlando?
what a joke, rn its being built between merced and bakersfield, just a lot of bridges built no track yet.
this will never be build in my life time
who is going to ride it anyway!!
LAX to SFO is 1 hr flying time
They are now on track to complete this project...by the year 2736.
Will enable high speed “cruising for sex” between the homo centers of Calif.
I just heard great things about the Brightline train!! 2 cruise couples used it from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale!! They said it was really nice!
What is it up to now? A trillion dollars?
Paper train and money pit
Bullet train front one sh$those to another.
I just don’t see a problem with this train, even if track never gets laid at all. The beauty of this project is politicians can skim hordes of money off this project with practically no one getting killed. Now compare this to the Uke war, where thousands are getting killed just so a few can get rich.
Think about that, this train is much more American.
I think Brightline is largely private which means they can’t embezzle public funds.Dollars to doughnuts they're receiving government subsidies AKA "public funds".
Now give us another $100 billion!
I propose a Ballot Initiative to Amend the State Constitution:
All State Offices shall be immediately relocated to Bakersfield, All Appointed or Elected persons shall exclusively use Mass Public Transit for 100% of their Travel to and from the State office they work in.
