MATTESON, Ill. (WLS) -- A train derailed Thursday morning in far south suburban Matteson, a spokesman for the village said.
Chopper 7 was over the scene about 11:30 a.m., and multiple cars were derailed in the area of 21740 Main St.
The spokesman said the train involved is from the Canadian National Railway Company.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, but officials were looking at a leaking train car.
It was not immediately clear what was leaking from the train car.
The village spokesman said a white powdery substance seen leaking from one car was tested by CN, who said it is not hazardous.

Years and years ago Hunter Harrison, funded by Mantle Ridge, took over two canadian railroads, CN being one of them, and CSX.
They marketed that he was an efficiency expert. NOPE. With the goal of boosting stock prices and then bailing out after 4 years, which was their plan with CSX, was slash jobs, cut costs, make the trains longer and heavier.

In the rail industry there are a lot of costs that can’t ever be controlled or forecasted: fuel, delays, breakdowns, accidents, storms.
What they can control is payroll, benefits and OT. If they vacate a job, they don’t have to fund that position.
Lots of federal rules, working trains very similar to mandatory rest like pilots and truck drivers. Fire train crews, less people to drive them. Causes all sorts of problems.
After seeing enough complaints to the government, Harrison had to address a federal board over delays, derailments, blocked crossings and lousy service. He blamed it all disloyal employees. Those same employees that watched 1000s get fired but got to keep their jobs, were told...”if you don’t like here, we’ll find someone that does”. Typical Wall St management.
Time will tell what the cause is, but Harrison’s management style has had wide ranging effects. NS, in an attempt to capitalize on a smaller payroll, also started cutting jobs. Talking to the former employees of NS and employees that are working for smaller companies all speak with disgust on Harrison and his team.
