After a brutal, unprovoked attack by a homeless man at a McDonald's drive-through in Boyle Heights that left 74-year-old Jose Juan Rangel battered and bruised and his wife Maria Guadalupe Vargas Luna brain-dead, the family has received yet another blow. This time, the LA County District Attorney George Gascón's office states they plan to file a motion to dismiss the most severe charge against Charles Green, a felony count, and only keep the lesser charge of misdemeanor battery.
"The DA, in my opinion, is brushing it off. They're not really seeing the big picture of what impact the injuries that my dad and my stepmother suffered," says Veronica Rangel, the elderly couple's daughter.
In an email, the Deputy District Attorney explained: "The evidence does not establish proof of an intentional act that resulted in Ms. Vargas' fall."
Rangel adds, "They said that he didn't intend to push her, that it was an accident."
In the video, you can see the defendant attacking Jose. They're on the ground, and when Vargas tries to help her husband, she is pushed by the scuffle, falls, and hits her head on the concrete.
"Whatever happened to her, they said he can't be held accountable, only for what he did to my dad. But even what he did to my dad, they want to give him a misdemeanor battery for beating up an old person," laments Rangel.

I’m not sure this treatment is appropriate, but going to McDonald’s to eat is just plain STUPID. Hopefully they will learn their lesson.

I put it out there sometimes to illustrate how hypocritical many of us are. I’ve seen many here beat the crap out of fast food and claim Mom-and-Pop is healthier-but are they? Do they even bother to look at what they’re getting. For example, I often (3 times this week) buy multiple Double-Quarter-Pounders and throw away the buns. This leaves me with a couple of pickle slices, some onions, a bit of Ketchup and Mustard, and HALF A POUND of beef.

Deranged and violent behavior is becoming the norm in our society.
I watched a deranged street person go nuts and almost hop the counter at MCDonalds to assault the workers, while at the same time a steady stream of other fairly disgusting street people walked into the McDonalds to tank up multiple Circle K big gulp cups with McDonalds soft drinks in Santa Fe.
Next week same deal in San Diego.
Half the Quick Trips in my area have 24 hour off duty police as armed guards and once really nice areas are populated by drugged out decaying zombies shuffling and jerking around yelling to themselves and walking down the middle of major roads in broad daylight.
It gets way worse at night.
Some mentally ill, probably drugged out moron started backing into my car at stop light and when I honked my horn he got of his car and started screaming at me in a violent rage. When i convinced him of the error of his ways he staggered back to his car and began screaming and arguing with his empty passenger seat - for about 5 stop lights and he was still screaming and gesticulating at an imaginary person in the passenger seat when he made a left hand turn at a light and almost took out anther car in the process. It's getting awful sporty out there folks.
