Mainers are going to decide in November whether to adopt a new flag, but the state needs to settle on a design first.

Anyone can submit a design proposal as long as it's based on the state's original flag, which featured a simple pine tree and blue star against an off-white background. Secretary of State Shenna Bellows announced the flag contest Friday. The deadline is July 19.

All this unnecessary endeavors to delete two white men on the current state flag which has existed for over 100 years.

Minnesota has already done it. Irony is that states don't get much whiter than Minnesota.

Isn’t the Pine Tree flag a hate symbol or a symbol of INSURRECTION? I’m pretty sure that’s we’ve been told.

Yes, I had Minnesota in mind as another state which changed their state flag because of “whiteness.“ Thanks for mentioning it.

Yes, the article mentions that since the “Alito incident“ that flag design is now become “controversial.“ That’s fine, I love seeing them tie themselves into knots with their insane ideology.

It’s called “internalized racism”, which is considered a sign of mental sickness and being oppressed unless whites are the ones hating themselves.

A extra-large big blue star with rounded points and a smaller Charlie Brown tree in the center. Fits their limp attitude (tree) with an over large ego (star) to fit their eco activism.

What the hell is the problem with the the old flag? Look what the morons in Minnesota did to theirs. They’re officially an African colony now with that old rag.

Bellows brushed aside a reporter's question about the flags' similarities at a news conference. “This is a debate delightfully free of partisan politics, and one that every Maine voter can weigh in on at the ballot box this fall,” she said in a statement.

I remember that name around here. Same gal who decreed that there should be no Trump on the Maine ballot.

Follow the license plate story and the weird thing is that it also comes in a design-free option. Not even so much as a lone pine. Why? 🤔

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Maine’s chickadee and pine cone license plates are poised to fly away, replaced by a retro design inspired by the original state flag which has seen a surge in popularity in recent years.

The proposed plate borrows from Maine’s first flag, with a blue north star and stylized green pine tree against a cream-colored background.

“After 24 years, it’s time for a new design,” said Rep. Lynne Williams, D-Bar Harbor, who sponsored the proposal.

The Legislature’s Transportation Committee voted unanimously Thursday in favor of the new plates while ordering up tweaks to their appearance. Motorists will be able to pick between the standard pine-and-star plate, or a plain version with no artwork. They’ll go into circulation in 2025 and 2026.

The legislature of 1919 decided that the design of the seal should no longer vary, and the design is still used today.

Somebody’s probably working on that.

Erasing it from the flag is a start.

Very little change needed.

As I observe it, the current Maine flag has a moose in the center.

They need only add a...

...flying squirrel to complete the picture.
