Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

Pretty day but it looks like it was a bit on the toasty side. Gizmo’s tongue was way out and he seemed to prefer staying close to the water.

I’m so glad that they were able to make the trip and spend some time with Ash’s favorite aunt. I’m sure the kids had a blast, and they’ll have so many stories to tell their friends back home.

I know how you feel about all the walking and standing. When I get home from visiting my kids, it takes several days to recuperate. LOL!

That little baby musk ox is so cute. Is their long hair useful for anything, you know, like sheep’s wool is?

I kinda figured they’d stopped by again this evening. What a sweetie Tim is to take care of some of the things you can’t deal with these days.

Bet it was fun to watch the kids with the ducks. An exciting up-close-and-personal experience for them.
Seeing the newborn musk ox was, too, I’ll bet. Don’t see that every day.

You’re going to have to make some time for the recliner this weekend to rest your knees. Sitting at your desk next week will be misery otherwise.

So far, so good. It looks like it’ll scoot JUST west of them. Barely.

Yep, I anticipate we will be doing some morning trips to the lake next week. We usually do morning trips on Heat Advisory and Excessive Heat Warning days. We’ll see what happens.

It is very warm, and very expensive....

The Musk Ox coat is multi-layered to keep them warm in the freezing arctic weather. The outer fur is coarse and stiff, the under wool is exceptionally soft. The layered coat of the Musk Ox is similar to that of cashmere goats, Musk Ox wool or qiviut is rare, finer, softer and warmer than cashmere. Qiviut is 8 times warmer than lamb’s wool and 6 times warmer than alpaca.

Musk Oxen were nearly extinct in Alaska in the late 1800’s. The musk oxen were then slowly reintroduced to the state of Alaska and now some are raised on farms where their qiviut is collected seasonally. Each adult animal sheds only five to eight pounds a year. Gathering enough fiber to be cleaned can take several years, making qiviut yarn quite rare. Collecting and processing qiviut into a usable yarn is exceptionally time-consuming being mostly done by hand. Processing, which is the cleaning and de-hairing of qiviut fiber is more expensive by far than processing sheep’s wool or alpaca into yarn.

Where the Musk Ox are raised on farms, in Alaska, they are hand combed, not sheared. The qiviut begins to shed from their coat naturally when the temperature changes in the spring. Hand combing is just what it sounds like. It takes a long time to comb an adult Musk Ox.

Yep, good idea to get out early when it gets that hot. I do evenings/nights since early morning is when I go to bed. LOL
Have as much fun at the lake with Giz as you can the next several days.

Your poor knees are usually unhappy after your Thursday appointments to begin with and they haven’t really had a chance to recover with all the standing and walking you’ve done the past two evenings. I wish you all the luck calming them down over the weekend.

I hope the kids are ok with the trip home. On the way up, they really didn’t know what to expect. Now they know how long a trip it is. At least it doesn’t look like they’ll have to deal with rough weather between there and TX that would make the trip a bit of an “adventure”.

That would be a heck of a tedious job, combing a musk ox. I need to look up and see what things look like that are made from the qiviut yarn.

.......and I did. The sweaters and things are EX-PEN-SIIIIIVEEEEE! Wow. But very beautiful.

How are things there? Has your corn and soybean farmers in the ‘hood gotten a rain yet? Hope they do soon.

I’m going to finish this show and skedaddle. I don’t want to stay up sooo late again. It makes it even harder to go to sleep early on Saturday nights. See ya tomorrow!

Things are steamy here and heating up the next several days. No real rain possibilities until next week. Slight chances for pop-up showers between now and then but that’s about it.
It smells bad outside tonight. When I went out a little while ago to water the potted plants, it smelled like dirt and dying vegetation.

At least it doesn’t smell like smoke yet. I worry about wildfires busting out soon. Just takes one idiot ......

Sleep well. Catch ya tomorrow.
