A Russian submarine that just left Cuba appears to be 'falling apart' with its soundproofing panels falling off, analyst says

One of Russia's newest and most advanced submarines, which just left Cuba, appears to be "falling apart" and to have damage to its hull, an open-source-intelligence analyst said.

Marijn Markus, a managing consultant at Capgemini, shared four photos of the nuclear-powered Kazan in a LinkedIn post on Monday.

Markus said it appeared the sub's soundproofing panels were "falling off" the front part of the submarine's hull. He said that would make the vessel "very" loud underwater and compromise its stealth capabilities.

He also pointed to what he described as a "gaping" hole at the sub's midsection.

"While docked, Russian divers were seen around the sub, presumably trying to repair the tin tub," he said.

Markus didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

I'm sure Thibault Spirlet collected a handsome fee and/or favors for spreading total BS.

The referenced "analyst" is an IT Consultant with an IT outsourcing company spouting off about something he hasn't got a clue of.

And anyone who knows anything about modern subs knows this happens to all of them. Ours included.

But the hate runs deep...as deep as the stupid.

That is my understanding, soundproofing is like a paneling they add onto the hull and keeping the panels on is a challenge that hasn’t been conquered yet by any navy because of the adhesive problem under the conditions of the undersea world and depth and temps, but that the boat itself remains sound with missing panels.

Should we start a GoFundMe for the submariners?

Oh no.

You didn’t say it’s a rust bucket, manned with a crosseyed crew and led by a drunk captain.

I always thought this kind of paneling, on all subs, required regular and routine/planned maintence and repair. And potentially upgrading. Stealth coatings need to be properly kept up and maintained.

I also believed from what I read is that Russia doesn’t really have a great track record in general, when it comes to maintaining its ships/subs.

Yahoo. Consider the source. Yahoo news sucks in general. But their sports in game coverage and team sites are good.

If Ukraine had a submarine and this guy said exactly what he said about the Russian submarine, you would believe it.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, they couldn't maintain the ships they had.

With the army, at least they could put in a new engine in their obsolete tanks.
