Mayor Eric Adams said Monday that the Big Apple is ready for its first heat wave of the year — but reminded city dwellers to prepare for a string of steamy days that could push the heat index up to nearly 100 degrees.
“A heat wave can be more than just uncomfortable,” Adams said at a morning press conference. “It can be deadly and life-threatening if you are not prepared. But New York City has a plan to beat the heat, and we want all New Yorkers to have a plan, too.”
Hizzoner urged New Yorkers to work slowly and taking frequent breaks if outdoors, wearing a hat, finding shade and doing “whatever is possible to keep your body temperature down.”

when he says “ready” he means “ready” for him to stay cool. The rest of you? good luck.
When it heats up in big cities, it smells like caca.

Here comes the first black out for the apple
Our troops in Iraq endured this for days in full kit.
Suck it up new york
In LA when it got around 100, you’d see the urine vapor waves coming off the sidewalks....In the underground parking lots you find yourself trying to hold your breath while running for the elevators...No joke.
I hope he has enough reefer trucks for the bodies that will pile up like 50 Mexicans in a 1 bedroom.
Heat index of 99 degrees? Still not as bad as in 1896, 1901 or 1911!
Just make sure those lifeguards are prepared
Temp on pavement in full sun = 100
Temp 50 ft away on grass under tree = 85.
Turn off the AC to save the planet.
Anyone who lives indoors can buy a $100-$150, 5,000 btu window unit which would get them through the annual surprise heat waves or muggy periods if they live in a part of the country where they don’t really need whole house cooling all season.
They cost very little to run 24 hours a day which would cover a small house (if run 24 hours constantly) or whatever room was chosen if the heat was real bad, old people, sickly people, parents of babies and toddlers, should keep one on hand.
99 degrees??????? Its really going to get that high???? I’m surprised that people won’t burn up as soon as they walk outside. LOL.
Living in the intermountain West a swamp cooler works quite well. Even when it’s over 100 outside my house stays comfortable and the cooler is pennies on the dollar compared to AC. Too bad for NewYorkers but if you decide to live in a baking shyt hole that’s your problem.
OMG I live in palm Desert we have days of 116* THIS is major news!!!
I’m in Upstate NY. 86 out...79 in here...humidity 52%...just using a fan..
99 degrees here in SW Arkansas is the norm...but these are Yankees we are talking about.
