WASHINGTON, June 15 (Reuters) - The first U.S. presidential debate between incumbent Joe Biden and Republican rival Donald Trump on June 27 will include two commercial breaks, no props and muted microphones except when recognized to speak, CNN said Saturday.
In May, the candidates agreed to face off in two debates including one this month that will be moderated by CNN anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash in Atlanta, while the other on Sept. 10 will be hosted by ABC.
CNN said Saturday both candidates will appear at a uniform podium during the 90-minute debate, podium positions will be determined by a coin flip and candidates will be given a pen, a pad of paper and a bottle of water but cannot use props.
"Microphones will be muted throughout the debate except for the candidate whose turn it is to speak," CNN said. CNN, a division of Warner Bros Discovery (WBD.O), opens new tab, said the moderators "will use all tools at their disposal to enforce timing and ensure a civilized discussion."

This isn’t just going to be a debate with muted microphones. It is going to be totally fixed to help Biden.
I do not get it why we allow CNN and MSM to run debates. FOX is no better either.

CNN is wearing egg on their face and really has no seat at the table AFAIC.
The left can’t help but to put up guardrails that cause them to crash and burn. This backfire will be glorious.I guess without an audience. Trump can’t fill the audience with all the little girls Joe has assulted.
If the debate actually takes place it will be because CNN and their DNC overlords have come up with a plan to surreptitiously support Biden while at the same time undermining Trump. Anyone who thinks the “debate” will be even remotely fair is being extremely naive based on CNN’s history.
Does Biden get the active earpiece, cue cards or a teleprompter? All of the above, plus questions in advance?
I honestly can’t believe Trump is going to do this.
I can see the questions now:
Mr Trump, considering you were impeached twice, are a convicted felon 34 times over, have been found to have raped multiple women, have been determined by a judge to have participated in an attempted insurrection of the United States government, and are responsible for millions of additional covid deaths, why should the American people consider electing you again?

Like many corporate news hosts, Tapper and Bash are anti-Christian uber-democrats with severe TDS.
Is it even possible to find moderators who are reasonably objective with no political ax to grind?
What formats/protocol would provide better insight into a candidates positions without a moderator putting their thumb on the scale? How about this?
Candidates take turns asking one another questions - something like this:
Trump asks Biden question A.
Biden has 2 minutes to answer.
Trump has 2 minutes to respond (follow-up)to Biden's question A answer.
Biden has 2 minutes to respond to Trump's follow-up.
Moderator prompts Biden to ask his question.
Same sequence as before except candidate roles are reversed.
With this protocol, the moderator(s) are allowed no questions or comments. Their job is to strictly enforce the given protocol.
Any other suggestions for having a meaningful and fair debate?
They will make it so boring they will end up losing even more viewers

This is still a roll of the dice for the DNC. If Biden freezes up and stares into space when asked a question, or suddenly starts wandering around the stage for no apparent reason, there's no way to spin that.
The way I see it, Trump is willing to take a gamble, knowing that one of these times, whatever they are juicing Biteme up with, will have no benefit, and he will stand there staring like a vegetable. I would take that gamble. But we all know, the moment that happens, they will pull the rug out from under him.
Its going to be Tapper and Bash debating the Donald while Biden stands frozen at the podium.
Everything is fixed. So why the waste of time?
