U.S. to Offer Landmark Defense Treaty to Saudi Arabia in Effort to Spur Israel Normalization Deal
Wall Street Journal via MSN ^ | June 9, 2024 | Stephen Kalin, Michael R. Gordon

The Biden administration is close to finalizing a treaty with Saudi Arabia that would commit the U.S. to help defend the Gulf nation as part of a long-shot deal to encourage diplomatic ties between Riyadh and Israel, U.S. and Saudi officials said.

But the success of the diplomatic effort hinges on Israel’s commitment to a separate Palestinian state, and more immediately an end to the war in Gaza, an unlikely proposition amid months of fruitless cease-fire talks and an Israeli weekend raid to retrieve hostages from the heart of the territory.

The U.S. aims to present Israeli leaders with an opportunity to achieve their long-sought goal of establishing normal relations with Saudi Arabia, opening the door to greater acceptance in the Arab and Muslim worlds. In return, Israel must support a credible pathway toward a two-state solution with the Palestinians, something the current Israeli government and most of the country’s public oppose.

The diplomatic push for a defense pact with Riyadh marks a remarkable turnaround for President Biden, who as a candidate vowed to treat Saudi Arabia as a pariah and make it pay a price for the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a U.S. resident. Biden is now on the cusp of making a formal commitment to protect the oil-rich monarchy, which is charting an ambitious path of economic and social development while still suppressing dissent.

, …

A security alliance would elevate Saudi Arabia’s regional standing and entrench the U.S. military role in the Middle East as it convulses from the Oct. 7 attack led by Hamas against Israel and ensuing war in Gaza. A deal would also buttress Saudi Arabia’s security, while risking increased tensions with Iran, which competes for regional supremacy with Saudi Arabia and has been deepening its ties with Russia.

This story didn’t get as much attention as the June 9 expiry of a 50-year agreement for Saudi Arabia to denominate oil in dollars. The petrodollar system was signed in 1974 as a result of a bilateral agreement between the US and Saudi Arabia. Both nations decided to price and trade oil in US dollars. In return, the US provided military support and security guarantees to the Saudi, ensuring its stability and protection against external threats. Meanwhile, Saudi agreed to invest its oil revenues in US assets, primarily Treasury securities, which helped finance US deficits and stabilise the dollar.

Contrary to hysterical reporting, there is no replacement agreement (yet…) favoring the Yuan, BRICS, Ruble, or chickens over the dollar.

It seems likely that Saudi Arabia is trying to unbundle the 50-year agreement, and lock in the military support FIRST.

What is the Bidet Admin willing to surrender to keep the dollar agreement?

“Hamas Covenant 1988”

“The Islamic Resistance Movement believes that the land of Palestine is an Islamic Waqf consecrated for future Moslem generations until Judgement Day. It, or any part of it, should not be squandered: it, or any part of it, should not be given up. Neither a single Arab country nor all Arab countries, neither any king or president, nor all the kings and presidents, neither any organization nor all of them, be they Palestinian or Arab, possess the right to do that.”

“There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors.”

“It is necessary to instill the spirit of Jihad in the heart of the nation so that they would confront the enemies and join the ranks of the fighters.”

“Woman in the home of the fighting family, whether she is a mother or a sister, plays the most important role in looking after the family, rearing the children and embuing them with moral values and thoughts derived from Islam. She has to teach them to perform the religious duties in preparation for the role of fighting awaiting them. That is why it is necessary to pay great attention to schools and the curriculum followed in educating Moslem girls, so that they would grow up to be good mothers, aware of their role in the battle of liberation.”

There already is a separate state. It's called "Jordan".

let’s vote this awful administration as far out of power as possible this year!

The greatest threat the Saudis face is Iranian nuclear weapons delivered by missile.

Given the war in Ukraine and the HAMAS/Hezbollah love of rockets, it is not likely the US has Patriot defense systems available to provide to Saudi Arabia.

The Frankenstein state is already recognized by many countries including Ireland, Spain and Norway.

If the monsters in Gaza want peace, they need to return the hostages pronto.

Allah, give us functional brains!

Repeat five times a day.

Quotes:

On June 22 1982, Joe Biden was a Senator from Delaware and confronted then Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin during his Senate Foreign Relations committee testimony, threatening to cut off aid to Israel.

Begin forcefully responded, “Don’t threaten us with cutting off your aid. It will not work. I am not a Jew with trembling knees. I am a proud Jew with 3,700 years of civilized history. Nobody came to our aid when we were dying in the gas chambers and ovens. Nobody came to our aid when we were striving to create our country. We paid for it. We fought for it. We died for it. We will stand by our principles. We will defend them. And, when necessary, we will die for them again, with or without your aid.”

Agreed. Saudis are snakes. Very likely they allowed the petro-dollar deal to expire as much for the leverage it gives them for more weapons from the US as for being able to sell oil outside of the dollar with BRICS.

Why? The Saudis did NOT insist on this in the negotiations prior to October 7th, and Israel must insist no changes in that status now.

They are using the US dollar outside the control of the Untied States with crypto right now. This is a pretty good source for financial matters that doesn't see much daylight in the western media.

ALSO this:

59 (more) countries are willing to join BRICS in 2024. (6/12/24)

Sounds like another bait and switch like the executive order to “close the border”. Election year optics.

Biden is hemorrhaging support among Jews and Muslims. This sounds like an attempt to placate both parties.

Ahhh, my father would have certainly disagreed with that statement. He spent 2+ years in Europe during WWII. He saw Dachau not long after liberation. (he died 3 years ago at 94)

He never talked about that much until late in life. He and I were very close. I carry his name with a , jr. behind it.

The USA played a big part in getting support to establish Israel after the war.
