The Supreme Court on Friday struck down a federal ban on bump stocks approved by former President Donald Trump, the latest opinion from the conservative court rolling back firearm regulations.
Justice Clarence Thomas wrote the opinion for a 6-3 court. The court’s liberal wing, led by Justice Sonia Sotomayor, dissented.
Trump had pushed for the ban in response to a 2017 mass shooting that killed 58 people at an outdoor music festival in Las Vegas. Bump stocks allow a shooter to convert a semi-automatic rifle into a weapon that can fire at a rate of hundreds of rounds a minute.

Wrong. He also pushed for far worse, but changed course after blowback. There is a video of him with some Senators promoting all sorts of gun control measures after the Vegas shooting. No need to lie about the facts, this isn’t a Democrat party discussion group.

Although the Obama Administration repeatedly concluded that particular bump stock type devices were lawful to purchase and possess, I sought further clarification of the law restricting fully automatic machineguns.
Accordingly, following established legal protocols, the Department of Justice started the process of promulgating a Federal regulation interpreting the definition of “machinegun” under Federal law to clarify whether certain bump stock type devices should be illegal.
*** Today, I am directing the Department of Justice to dedicate all available resources to complete the review of the comments received, and, as expeditiously as possible, to propose for notice and comment a rule banning all devices that turn legal weapons into machineguns. ***

The left is great at revisionist history, don't start doing that on our side. Trump pushed for the ban even after it was pointed out that the ATF didn't have the power to do this by creating a regulation. Trump instructed the DoJ to create the ban after the shooting in Florida (even though a bump stock was not used in that shooting). His reasoning was that “We must do more to protect our children..."

CNN has never been a fan of Trump. The headline is interesting. Is this an attempt by CNN to tarnish Trump among his campaign supporters? If so does anyone think Biden would instruct his ATF to stop at bump stock bans? Biden has recently said he wants to ban all assault rifles.

Anyone, Trump included, had to know this would be struck down. I know people were upset to see Trump institute the ban after the Vegas shooting, but what it did was get a major infringement case in front of SCOTUS. In the end, a good result, whether accidental or by 4-D chess.
Quite correct. In my experience, almost everyone who insists on viewing the world through an ideological and/or partisan lens is rarely open even to considering facts that contradicts, or even shed doubt on, their own interior narrative.
