Donald Trump on Thursday brought up the idea of imposing an “all tariff policy” that would ultimately enable the U.S. to get rid of the income tax, sources in a private meeting with the Republican presidential candidate told CNBC.
Trump, in the meeting with GOP lawmakers at the Capitol Hill Club in Washington, D.C., also talked about using tariffs to leverage negotiating power over bad actors, according to another source in the room.
The remarks show Trump, who championed tariffs as a foreign policy multi-tool during his first term in office, is considering a drastically more protectionist trade agenda if he defeats President Joe Biden in November.

Now we’re talking.
And the democrats when they get in next time would definitely implement the VAT. They want to already. But with the income tax gone, they’d definitely go with that. They’d start at 1 percent of course until it got to 30 or more percent.
Whoooooo!!!
Brilliant 👏
Excellent. Even a democrat will vote for him. This is the guy who “The America You Deserve” in 1998 or so.
Fix education.
Eliminate racial preferences in hiring, loans, and education.
No income tax, and very wealthy.
There's a lesson in there somewhere...
Prices will already be increasing if we deport the illegals who are working for very low wages, and tariffs would increase prices on imports. Aren’t most of the things you buy imported? How nice of you to want to pay more!
Florida.
LOL!
Another tax break for the rich.
I think the lesson is that wealthy people go where they don’t have to pay tax on their income.
This type of reform is why the Establishment has TDS.
So what’s his plan to cut government expenditures to make up for the lost tax revenue? Decades of governance by the tax-and-spend party and the borrow-and-spend party are how we have a $30+ trillion deficit today.
isn’t that what Herbert Hoover did? Smoot Hawley tariff vote in Congress caused the 1929 stock market crash, which led led to a global trade war and a series of bank failures tied to world trade?
There’s plenty of bloat.... time to slim down. Department of Education would be a great start... Energy.... pull out from leftist endowments like NPR... I’m sure we can find plenty to cut... As I mentioned above, best remedy would be cheap energy.
It’s hard to claim Americans have a right to privacy if they have to fill out a tax return and reveal how much money the make and where they put it, etc! Hard to hire 87K IRS agents and claim you believe in privacy rights.
>> Schedule C
Been filing that for many decades, and a cakewalk compared to the Subchapter S requirements at least for NYS.
Dr. Franklin-He should suggest that AOC won’t have to steal from the tip jar.
Californian here. Trump will win California when pigs fly; we’re surrounded by fruits and nuts. Same is true of New York, Oregon, Washington, Washington D.C., Hawaii, and a few other New England states. A lot of Rats love taxes and tyranny.
DO IT!
Before the 16th Amendment was passed, the US government was mainly paid for with tariffs. Can we go back to that? Or are we spending too much on things the government did not pay for in the past?
