I’m fortunate enough to work in a field where it’s not difficult to steer clear of online application processes entirely. I will only work for employers who I know well before I even apply there, and it’s not uncommon for these employers to hire professionals before they even post the job online — and the job posting is just a formality for HR/legal purposes.
Ya, but what if you don’t like people?
Fake it!
We’ve been recruiting for onshore Azure engineers and architects FOR MONTHS and are getting little response.
No interest in H1B’s or sponsoring anyone. Kinda blows away your statement.
Interesting. I had a company recruit me and got me to sign a letter of intent so that they could use me as a part of a proposal for a federal government contract. I have 40+ years of experience in my field.
Once they won the contract, they ghosted me. They then hired a guy with about 5 years of experience.
You’re spot on. Those Indian recruiters are bastards. I get contacted by more than a dozen weekly on LinkedIn with promises of the best role ever in a Fortune 100 company if id only send them my resume.
They’re ALL a scam. Easy to spot. And as if I’m going to share my resume with some anonymous scammer from who knows where?
I’m not looking for a job, I have a great 40+ year career and getting ready to retire.
And LinkedIn is worthless. All scams, all the time.
Are your positions showing in Indeed.com?
To be fair, I know a ton of AWS certified people, but few Azure.
Sorry that happened to you.
Are you willing to train them in, in return for a 3-4 year commitment?
That’s exactly the problem: Azure.
We’re locked into Microsoft and are in the midst of migrating some 1500napps that run the bank to Azure cloud.
We built our private VPN on top of azure, I was the lead architect and engineer for that. Also built.our bastion and security zones on Azure, our VDI environment and the hub and spoke environments for our apps.
I’m screaming at our HR folks that we’ll take AWS folks, they can learn the platform. We want the Cloud experience. Personally I’m getting fed up of getting yelled at by my CIO and business app owners when they themselves are causing this months long delay in hiring by demanding azure only.
We use A Cloud Guru for our training program and pay for Certification.
We use Azure AD and a few Azure cloud-hosted apps, but are otherwise in AWS, with a vengeance, but now attempting to make more AWS set ups somewhat more cloud-brand agnostic, to allow future movement, if necessary.
Stop working for companies, start your own. No DEI.
Sorry that happened to you.
Thanks, but It wasn't a big deal for me. It would have cut my commute, but otherwise, it was a lateral job move. Just annoying.
HR is a make work job for a bunch of misguided busy bodies with an inflated self-assessment of themselves. If it were not for SOX they would never have gained the power they have.
I’ve done a couple stints consulting on my own, but every time I eventually get asked to help develop a team to fix a problem someplace. I enjoy it too much to say no.
I’m not hurting by any means and I’ve not been afraid in my career to take whatever the consequences are - my integrity comes first...the only reason I haven’t retired at this point is my wife’s cultural fears (she’s Japanese) and the enjoyment I get developing the next generations as leaders and competent technical decision makers. Have a good 10-15 years left in me at a minimum.
I was looking for a job in 2003 and I saw a posting when I was at a temp agency and figured out who the company was by the photo they had as I had drove by that building and I mailed my resume in.
I was told they only hire thru a temp agency and was disqualified from being hired by contacting them directly....
