My sister was there 2 years longer...as far as i was concerned, it WAS cold and harsh.
A lot of nature no nurture.
It did save a lot of kids(including me and my sister) from the other hellish alternatives...
Great education.
In H.S. we went to school a half a day. The other half we learned a trade, then went back to school at night to do home work.
In grade school, corporal punishment was the law of the land. Silence was golden.
Things were done in a quasi-military manner.
It was a tad(not much) looser when we got to H.S.
We went to Mass every day. Some days(low or high holy days) twice a day. First Latin Mass then when Vatican II, English Mass.
Holy Week...we went to church and they locked the doors.(kidding) stations of the cross, adoration...you name it.
The orphanage closed in early-mid 70s. The grounds were sold and is now a Misericordia.
One of the grade school boys’ living cottage was turned into a restaurant.
Those of us still alive and can make it, have a lunch their the last weds. of every month.
P.S. I’m guy in the red shirt in the Star Trek photo. That was done in the early 90’s @ Universal Studios in Burbank Cal. They photoshopped me into the photo.
Everybody has a story or two...yours are and have been really fascinating\heartbreaking\wonderful...

You are so right about your understanding.
But temperature inversions, where a layer of warm air is trapped above a layer of cool air, can create atmospheric “ducts” that bounce radio signals over longer than usual conditions. While the short waves of UHF transmissions(cell phones) aren’t typically very bouncable, a cell tower located in a layer of clear, cool air that’s under a layer of warm, damp air, may extend the reach of its transmission.But on a day with a high relativity humidity(no temperature inversion) the water vapor in the air can attenuate a cell signal giving poorer reception.

Well I’ve been doing and double and triple Duty with the Trump memes. People are going nuts creating them and putting them all over. It’s great, goes along with all those donations. I think they just might be pardoning trump if they’re worried about backlash.

what do you grow in them?
We had an Orphanage by my elementary school in Everett Washington, it was the 50”s. It was a fairly big orphanage, post WW2 effected I am sure. I had a couple friends there but never went into it other than there was some bad vibes.
