It is a little toasty today, that’s for sure! I just came inside and it’s nice and cool, but I have to admit that I don’t care for air-conditioning if I really don’t need it. I love the have the windows open, the fans spinning and just normal comfortable moving air. The cool house is a relief when it’s like this, but it feels a little like living in a fridge.

I just watered my raised bed and hokey schmokes! That thing is going great guns! I can’t believe how fast it’s growing. I can’t eat enough lettuce to keep up with these lol. Romaine, Boston, green leaf, red leaf....too much lettuce!

What happens if you putter in kitchen? Other than your son waking up? I remember as a kid I loved to hear my mother putzing around the kitchen while I was still in bed....it was rather a comforting type of noise. I didn’t hear it often, as our backsides were hauled out of bed by 7, by hook or by crook!

Enjoy the deck sit today - I trust it’s a shady spot!

Yes the back deck is covered and a very large oak tree shades the metal covering

Glad the grain bin raised garden is flourishing. I’d love all those green lettuce. Right now I have none growing but 2 heads hearts of Romane in frig

Son Jeff’s a very light sleeper and has extremely good hearing. His living room (where he sleeps) Is between my room n kitchen. He’s slept there since he moved in years ago. He has a bedroom and bed - which I got for him - on the other side of kitchen. We each have our humble bathroom next to bedroom

Thanks for the heads up on the movie Norsky

. It does sound like a delightful movie. We only have one multiplex theater in the region is probably about 20 miles away

I used to be an avid movie attender - a couple times a week now it’s probably been well over two years since I’ve gone

it’s just not convenient and it’s definitely more expensive than it used to be in Ohio

https://christopherrufo.com/p/texas-childrens-hospital-now-under?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

Yesterday, I published an investigative report featuring a Texas Children’s Hospital whistleblower, who alleged that doctors in the hospital’s child sex-change program have committed Medicaid fraud.

Now, the State of Texas has taken action.

I have confirmed with a spokesman for Attorney General Ken Paxton that the alleged Medicaid fraud is “currently being investigated by the Texas Attorney General.”

There are two possible avenues for this investigation: civil and criminal.

If the state pursues a civil case against Texas Children’s, the hospital could lose a significant amount of funding and, in the maximal outcome, even lose access to the state Medicaid program. If the state decides to pursue criminal charges, the doctors involved could face significant fines and up to 10 years in prison.

The scandal of “transgender medicine” is finally reaching the point of crisis. There will be a reckoning—and Texas might lead the way

The strategic turning point in the American Revolution could safely be attributed to the entry of France on our side. She has been a staunch ally since our founding and has never wavered in her camaraderie to our cause. Vive La France!

The Continental Army leaves Valley Forge

On this day in history, June 19, 1778, the Continental Army leaves its encampment at Valley Forge in pursuit of the British Army. British General William Howe had captured Philadelphia in September of 1777. George Washington’s Continental Army had tried unsuccessfully to defeat the invading army at the Battles of Brandywine and Germantown.

Many skirmishes took place around the city for a few months between the two armies, but when the dead of winter hit, General Howe decided to settle the army in for the winter. Washington located a defensible location on the Schuylkill River about 25 miles west of the city at Valley Forge, named after a local Quaker forge. The location was protected by the river and some creeks and was high enough to allow a view of the surrounding area.

The winter at Valley Forge was miserable. Of the 12,000 soldiers encamped there, up to a fourth may have died from sickness and disease. Food and clothing were chronically short. Soldiers stayed in makeshift log huts with sheets for doors. The winter was one of the worst on record.

Things began to change though around March. The Prussian, Baron von Steuben arrived and started training the soldiers in military maneuvers and reorganizing the camp. General Nathanael Greene, arguably Washington’s most capable general, was made quartermaster general, meaning he was in charge of procuring supplies. He immediately began building roads and bridges and the supplies started rolling in. A group of bakers was organized under Philadelphia gingerbread maker Christopher Ludwig and the soldiers started having adequate supplies of bread to eat. In April, the shad season began on the Schuylkill and there was fish to eat.

In May, a wave of encouragement swept through the army when it was learned that France had joined the war on the American side. This meant more troops, money and armaments with which to fight the British. The entrance of France into the war also spelled bad news for the British. General Henry Clinton, Howe’s replacement, was forced to abandon Philadelphia because the French fleet could easily blockade his army in the city. He elected to march his army back to New York, leaving Philadelphia on June 18.

Washington was already aware of Clinton’s plans and had the army ready to move. As Clinton marched across New Jersey, the Continentals abandoned Valley Forge and engaged the British 9 days later in the Battle of Monmouth Courthouse, one of the largest and bloodiest battles of the war.

This battle was technically a stalemate, but the Continentals, which before this time had not been able to fight successfully in open battle against the British, proved that von Steuben’s winter training had paid off. The British were drawn to a standstill in the fight and eventually chose to retreat back to New York. After this, the battle would shift to the south and Washington’s northern army would not face the British again until the Battle of Yorktown in 1781, a battle which they would win decisively and which would bring the war to a close.

“Dr. Pepper chocolate cake the other night, served with vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberries”

That sounds fantastic. Sorry your pain interfered with your enjoying it. But I’m impressed that you are going out to restaurants. You must be doing better than before?

“I hope this is a regular PM offering”

I’m going to try for it to be. I know I won’t be nearly as consistent as lysie is with our breakfast, but I’ll give it a try. And I’ll try to post before midnight, lol! Although the later I do it the more we’ll be left for me! And those on the night shift.

A lavender that sounds delightful. Second only to a vanilla cake bath!

I have some special Canadian vanilla cake bubble bath, Judy knows about it. And Dolly got to try it when she was here.

Oh that must be difficult then, if he’s a very light sleeper. It would be nice if he’d use his bedroom....maybe he just doesn’t realize how much easier life would be for you if he did? Maybe if you talked to him about it you’d be pleasantly surprised and be able to do things more freely in the mornings.

Oak tree shading the metal covering is probably very helpful. It sounds like you could sit out there when it rains....something I love. I don’t have that here. I wanted a roof over the one deck, but the reno guy talked me out of it - too many building code regulations to pass. So I got one of those pergolas (I don’t know what they’re called) which is 12’x12’, and it has a nice ceiling fan and four large posts, but when it rains you still get sprayed on because it’s open on all sides. I miss not be able to sit out when it rains....especially when it storms! I love that!

“Yes we are a people of instant gratification and wait is a four-letter word”

I’m find I’m getting less so that way.

Sometimes I imagine what it would be like to wait months for a letter. Or to find out if a war is over. I kind of think I would like the relaxing calm days in that era. Where the most important thing is getting the crops in and everything else can wait.
