The charges against Trump are Class E felonies, the least serious category under New York law...Experts tend to think it is highly unlikely that Trump will face any jail time as a result of the hush money verdict...Due to the immense and complex challenges of incarcerating a former president, the judge might instead opt for a sentence of house arrest...The U.S. Constitution...does not bar felons from holding its highest office.

I watched it happening too, FRiend. I saw the steal happening in the wee hours of the morning with my own eyes. So I do believe you. My point is that we, and perhaps the wide majority of FReepers, are vastly more informed than the average citizen. Thanks to Trump and the shenanigans by the democrats, RINO's, and the purportedly party-agnostic courts ... the average folks are catching up with us this year. We were marginalized successfully last time. I don't expect that pig is going to fly this time around.

... the republicans should anoint Trump before his sentencing Bingo!
That would be a most timely and efficient tactic. Unfortunately, in the absence of Trump the R party may be effectively controlled by ant-Trumpists or just too split to be efficient and aggressive.
After naming Trump, it would seem best to cancel the Convention unless it is used to boost Trump's political image. That could be done by surveying the many things he accomplished in his first term compared to Biden's

There’s no legal support for that position. The immunity, such as it is, applies only to official acts. None of the charges for which he was convicted were official acts. They were personal acts, which the law distinguishes at all levels.

Presidential immunity holds that POTUS cannot be tried for a crime while president. The corrolary to that is that if a president has been convicted before his term of office starts, that it may not impede his performance as POTUS. Try reading the The Supremacy Clause of the Constitution of the United States (Article VI, Clause 2). State law cannot supercede the duties of POTUS.
