Ukraine War Maps Reveal Russian Advances Along Whole Front Line
Newsweek ^ | May 27, 2024 | Isabel van Brugen

Russian forces have advanced along the front line in Ukraine, battlefield maps published by a U.S. think tank show, as Ukraine warns that Moscow is preparing for a major offensive in the east.

Maps released by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a U.S.-based think tank, on Sunday, show that Russian forces have made progress in Ukraine's Luhansk and Donetsk regions, which together comprise the Donbas.

The Kremlin has been pushing for the total capture of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions since Russia's initial invasion of eastern Ukraine in 2014.

Newsweek has contacted the Russian Defense Ministry by email for comment.

In the Luhansk region, Russian forces advanced northwest of the city of Svatove, and geolocated footage published on Sunday indicates that they recently advanced into the rural settlement of Ivanivka, northwest of Svatove, the ISW said.

While the Russian Ministry of Defense has claimed that Russian forces seized Ivanivka, the ISW said it hasn't observed confirmation of this.

Near the city of Bakhmut in Ukraine's Donetsk region, the ISW observed that Russian forces had recently made small advances southwest of the captured fortress city of Avdiivka amid continued fighting in the area.

Ukraine’s current LEADERSHIP knows that they cannot surrender, or they’ll face trial in Moscow.

Ha! Good one. 🤣

“Ukraine knows that they cannot surrender.”

No, they don’t have to surrender. Just accept a compromise peace settlement.

At this point, a compromise is that Putin gets to keep Crimea. With international recognization down the road.

All this hysterical hatred spewed at ISW tells us adults how frightened you all must be that ISW is posting accurate maps and analyses. The maps they post are, for example, based on geolocated reports, not hearsay. What are the anonymous YT videos y’all love so much based on, hmmmm? Memes cooked up by the SVR’s notorious unit 54777 for your consumption? Maybe by convicted felons and kiddy diddlers hiding under Putin’s skirts? Ridiculous doesn’t begin to describe it.

The Russians captured Bakhmut a year ago. Since then, they've seized a couple of miles of territory toward Chasiv Yar.

At this rate, the Russians will make it to Kyiv by 2100.

ISW was a favorite source for Zeepers last year during Ukraine's counteroffensive, because they reported that the UAF broke through Russia's main defense line in Zaporozhia and the that the fall of Tokmak was imminent. ISW's reputation hasn't recovered since.

The Ukrainians probably ran out of troops they needed to continue the offensive so they had to stop attacking. The Russians had too much time to fortify their defenses before the counteroffensive.

I think my ideas are reasonable terms. Russia keeps the Crimea. Russia returns the land bridge. Russia withdraws their forces from the Donbas, with a UN supervised plebiscite for who gets it. Russia pays rebuilding costs to Ukraine.

It's possible that the war will last for 10 years. But the intensity of the war won't be like it was last year during the Battle for Bakhmut.

It'll be more like Afghanistan.

No negotiations until Putin's successor.

The Deep State that runs the west will not permit a defeat or surrender. Europeans, lead by France and Poland are ready to step in and send their best stuff and people into the fight. If they fold, we are ready to send in all we have to win the war and crush Russia. But, how deep is the commitment? How deep is national support? There needs a “Lusitania Event,” a “9-11” sort of thing to blame of Russia and evil Hitler-Putin. Its got to have a lot of deaths of innocents. Watch, wait for it—coming in a few weeks.

“It’s possible that the war will last for 10 years.”

Possible, but highly unlikely. Ukraine is going to run out of manpower long before that. Then what?

Did you literally just wake up this morning in 2024? The entire 600 mile line of contact has been hot since 14 January. Russia introduced their FAB500s (500, 750, 1000, 1500, 2000 and 3000 pounders) ending the stalemate.

The FABs ended two years of NATO fortified positions holding back Russian forces.

Ukraine is losing an average if 1600 KIA a day and on the 21st of May had 33,000 KIA already this month. Russia may have lost 20,000 KIA in May, but Ukraine has stated on the record several times in the last 10 days they are out of reserves.

Ukraine is no longer able to hide in bunkers, or counterattack in most regions.

In fact as a result of Zenlinski pulling men out of the already hard pressed brigades in the east and south, has opened the way to Ukrainian losses of approximately 100 villages with the attack in Karkiev in the north.
Heil Zenlinski. Another guy who directs the battles and relieves his generals. He is Russia’s secret weapon. Had he simply defended in the north, he would not lose another 70 villages in June because of the lack of soldiers.

Ukraine either surrenders or, ultimately, ceases to exist.

…..with corrupted senile Joe in charge, it is a given Ukraine ceases to exist, for many reasons.

Good point.

Trump getting reelected is the only way Ukraine will continue to exist.

From your own FR link:

"Ukrainian forces are for the first time confirmed to be operating armored vehicles (Stryker & Marder infantry fighting vehicles) beyond the Russian anti-tank ditch and dragon’s teeth obstacles near #Verbove. We are not yet prepared to say that Ukraine has broken through this portion of the Russian line...."
