The publisher Wiley has confessed that fraudulent activities have rendered 19 of its journals so compromised that they must be shuttered. In response, the industry is developing AI tools to detect these fakes, a necessary yet disheartening development.

Betcha if there are N published “climate change” papers, the number of papers that are fake are at least 10x N.

This article reveals the scam of false peer review, but even the world of ‘legit’ peer review is controlled by the Mean Girls of the research community.

There is no fix, outside of a complete burning to the ground.

The rot at Wiley started decades ago, but it got caught when it spent US $298 million on an Egyptian publishing house called Hindawi.

Once upon a time peer reviewers tried to duplicate the results of the papers. Now most are little more that glorified grammar checkers. But if they start checking others' research then theirs might be checked too, those destroying the entire governmental-academic complex.

From President Eisenhower's farewell address:

The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded.

Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.

Sounds like the author used AI to write the article. Since when has anyone, let alone an employee, referred to ABC as “The ABC”

I wrote a lot of technical papers in the late 70s up until the mid 90s. It was tough, grueling work writing a quality paper about our research results.

Was I ever a sucker! I could have increased my paper output by 100X with the right “tools” doing the work for me.

“Follow the science,” they said.

They only neglected two letters:

“Follow THEIR ‘science’.”

having been asked to edit articles and textbooks, I no longer do it anymore

you can put hundreds of hours of labor into editing a garbled, error-ridden manuscript

only to see the publisher print at least half of the mistakes anyway

and put your name on the cover as editor or contributor

I don’t want my name on any damned books unless I wrote them or i get to at least check them over before they go to press

it damages your reputation to have a POS book on the shelf WITH YOUR NAME ON or IN IT....and it is particularly insulting when they (often) don’t even pay you for your time and effort.

Screw the publishers! They should go back to hiring editors with subject-matter expertise instead of DEI graduates who couldn’t write their own names correctly on a roll of toilet paper

“Who knew, academic journals were a $30 billion dollar industry?”

Bogosity abounds in Academia. It all needs to be canceled.

Much of soft science (psychology, sociology) was faked pseudoscience long before AI hit the scene. Anthropology and paleontology are largely opinionated guesses. I wouldn’t call them fake though because most people know that it is guesswork.

Even in hard science theories are often indistinguishable from theology. But this is a normal part of the process. Sometimes it gets totally out of hand like the reliance on things that don’t exist like dark matter. But still empirical evidence is needed as proof. In soft science ( which is not science at all) evidence simply doesn’t exist.

A similar aspect regarding professional papers is outside of academia in organizations where scientists are pressed to publish.

Scientists/employees will do the hard work of research and writing. Their superiors will demand that their names be added as authors when they’ve had nothing to do with it. Most often, they don’t even understand the topic.

DH experienced that a few times during his career, most recently at a National Lab.

Science used to work on the honor system and using peer review to catch poor or inappropriate experimental design/intrpetation of results. It was never designed to deal with outright fraud. How can you detect such fraud except by replicating the experiment yourself and getting similar numbers. Ain’t nobody got time (or money) for that.

FTA: Wiley shuts down 19 science journals and retracts 11,000 gobbledygook papers

But global cooling / warming / climate change / acidification of oceans etc., covid-19, bird flu are real.

The claims have been peer reviewed. It is science. Believe in the science.

It is clear in the last several decades that sciences whatever a stream of cash wants it to be. Much of our scientific and medical establishments are corrupt to the core. This is shameful and pathetic.
