If the lawsuit goes class-action, Hertz is going to have some problems and a “discount on your next rental” isn’t going to cover it.
Hertz, man are they a bunch of screwups.
I knew a VP at hertz who was a big part of their EV program.
He died a few weeks ago, and I don’t know if he really knew that he helped ruin that company.
They have to get their money back for the Tesla disaster somehow ,LOL
What does the contract say?
At least they weren’t arrested for “stealing” the car.
Hertz does that too.
Is this before or after having them falsely arrested for stealing the car they returned?
Hertz acknowledged the error. Everyone given refunds and a credit voucher.
It’s bad faith, as not everybody has a charger.
They should charge a reasonable fee for charging the car and consider it as the cost of doing business.
I don’t see why anyone rents from Hertz. I walked away from then over the OJ commercials.
What? This isn't the Bee?
“ only to pay hundreds in gratuitous fuel fees”
Idiots write this stuff.
According to this article, a guy returned his Tesla with 96% charge just like he picked it up with, and they charged him.
https://www.thedrive.com/news/hertz-is-charging-tesla-model-3-renter-277-fee-for-gas-wont-back-down
“You might ask, maybe Hertz was charging Lee for having to top the Model 3’s battery upon its return? According to the final receipt, the customer gave the Model 3 back to Hertz with the battery 96% full, the exact same state of charge it was picked up with.”
Hertz seems to have a bunch of super crooked franchisees or operators. My guess is that they were randomly adding fake surcharges to people’s bills and forgot to add a setting to not add fake fuel survharges for EVs.
I have been ripped off by Hertz twice and avoid them like the plague. Enterprise is my new go to and they have never tried to cheat me. Yet.
It’s really no different than most practices for ICE rental cars. You get it ‘full’ and return it full or pay for what you used - at their rates.
They should be paying people to rent the damn things
DEI?
Hertz: “The gas tank is empty on your Tesla”
Me: “No, the gas tank is full. Show me the gas tank and fuel gauge.”
This is insanity.
Hertz:
“This alien to our company computer which we had absolutely no knowledge of and even no control of, is responsible.”
“Flounder, you f’d up. You trusted us.”
Recently I rented a car from Thrifty and subsidiary of Hertz. It was the managers special. I would find out what it was when I got to the airport. When picking up the car he said, “I was supposed to give you an EV but I will not do that to you.” I said, “they are pieces of Sh— and I would not take it anyway.” He said, “Yeah, they are.” He gave me full size gasoline powered vehicle for the same price. He was a good guy.
I suspect he has had many problems with the EVs.
Who the heck wants to stop and charge a rental car for an hour and a half anyway?
