Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) decision to appear this week at former President Trump’s hush money trial in Manhattan is sparking new blowback from some House Republicans, who are questioning why he would inject himself so prominently in a case involving an alleged affair with a porn star.
These Republicans, who requested to speak anonymously to discuss the sensitive topic, are accusing Johnson — a devout Southern Baptist who built a career around the fight for Christian values and moral conservatism — of undermining the party’s family values image simply to ingratiate himself with Trump, the party’s presumptive presidential nominee.

Adam Kinzinger, Liz Cheney
It’s just like Mike Pence and Liz Cheney.
They couldn’t care less about Biden’s corruption, his tastes, his grabbing women, daily lies, and the $30 Million his family is sitting on from our enemies.
Up yours moron.
This is a false accusation.
Clifford lied about the affair. Cohen paid off Clifford without telling Trump, then lied to get reimbursed for it by lying.
This was all known years ago.
Jill Biden said Hunter didn’t do anything wrong and Ashley Biden wrote in her diary that Jill was basically a Psycho. She said she was incapable of love and refused to give her blankets when she was young.
Are any of the Trump attackers bothered by the inappropriate showers of Joe and his young daughter? Events that made her seek therapy 35 years later?
Yes I read the article. The title wasn’t House Republicans, it “some” Republicans and they mentioned those three and a bunch of unnamed Republicans. Must be nice to be so smart when you’re not.
“These Republicans... are accusing Johnson — a devout Southern Baptist who built a career around the fight for Christian values and moral conservatism — of undermining the party’s family values image simply to ingratiate himself with Trump...”
All that to avoid having to say that “these Republicans” are craven, uniparty Trump-haters.
The porn star’s allegations can never be proven, and if taken as a basis for a judicial decision, every accusation from every woman afterwards will have to be accepted in a court of law.
And the accusations have not a thing to do with what the trial is about.
But, the Speaker is presently leading the House.
The effort noted to oppose him falls under the heading of vinegar, sour grapes.
Democrat rags trying to masquerade as legitimate news outlets often make stuff up and then attribute it to “unnamed” or “confidential” sources.
I agree with gunnut. If the unnamed House Republicans referenced in the article are in league with Romney, Murkowski and Cheney, then I don’t care what they have to say.
GMTA
“anonymous Republicans” = Democrats.
There is no gag order preventing Trump from publicly defending himself or denying the charges against him. The gag order prevents him from publicly speaking about the jurors, witnesses, court staff, their families, or the families of the judge and DA.
Except that Trump is innocent. Trump says he never had an affair/sex, with that woman, Stormy Daniels.
Seriously, he denies it. I believe him. God knows.
Thanks for stating this plainly - it isn't said enough on FR. Without this self-serving entity known as the GOP, a Joe Biden could not exist.
I don’t read anything from the Hill these days because of their bias. This article is like the rest of their offerings that comes across fake. I don’t believe a word of it because no one wants to be “named”. But the unnamed people are “unsettled”. Yeah...right!
I don’t trust Mike Johnson with anything he appears like the perfect mole the way he deals with the democrats his front looks fake.
Yes, but Stephanie Clifford....aka “Stormy Daniels”...was one of the so-called “witnesses,” so President Trump was barred by the judge from speaking about her, her testimony and her claims.
Are you a butt hurt RINO or a troll?
It's certainly the issue of this stupid article, though. If the "affair" happened, his wife has forgiven him. God may have forgiven him too by now, in which case who am I to object? It's an 18-year-old dead horse. I just don't care about it, and no journalist, atheist, Democrat, or Never-Trumper can make me care about it.
