Pope Francis: Conservatives Have a ‘Suicidal Attitude’

ROME — Pope Francis told CBS anchor Norah O’Donnell that conservatives are willfully blind and manifest a “suicidal attitude” in their narrowmindedness.

In an interview set to air Sunday on 60 Minutes, the pope asserts that a conservative “is someone who clings to something and does not want to see beyond that. It is a suicidal attitude.”

“One thing is to take tradition into account and consider situations from the past but quite another is to be closed up inside a dogmatic box,” he adds.

The Pope addresses his conservative critics in the church.

“Conservative is one who clings to something and does not want to see beyond that. It is a suicidal attitude,” says Pope Francis. This Sunday on 60 Minutes, the Pope sits down with @NorahODonnell. https://t.co/mEN4CWeXMW pic.twitter.com/HPYgVm4kIp

Like I said, you must not be a conservative.

Are you aware that Free Republic is a conservative website?

Excommunicated? His ass should have been bound and gagged and thrown in the Tiber River the way Romans did with emperors they didn't like.

I read your post with a grateful attitude that I did not have to go into long drawn out explanations of what I meannt.

The beliefs of the Roman Catholic Church are what it is FOREVER.

The Apoltles Creed tells all Catholics what is Truth and what to believe.

This STUPID NEW THINKING THAT ALL OF A SUDDEN TO BELIEBE MEANS YOU HAVE TO ADVANCE AND CHANGE BECAUSE YOU MUST MODERNIZE A BELIEF IS ...THERE IS NO OTHER WORD FOR IT...

INSANE.

Please, God, help us to be strong and face those like the HERETIC THAT NOW PRETENDS TO BE POPE.

I DON’T THINK THIS GUY IS EVEN CATHOLIC.

Generally I ignore antagonism, but out of the thimble of charity wherein I find a droplet, may you consider yourself edified by the following, from which it is hoped you might find a means to help you improve your definition of the relevant terms:
But Tradition is not conservatism; Tradition is not a “dogmatic box” because it draws from the limpid and pure water of the divine source, drawing from grace and fidelity to the Gospel and the Depositum Fidei the lifeblood that makes it capable of looking to the future without denying the past.

Tradition develops like an athlete, who goes from childhood to adolescence and adulthood always remaining the same and developing his body harmoniously, so that he can face new challenges and overcome them.

-- Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano.
