We all know what tiny homes are, but have you ever heard of a skinny home?
What originally began as plans to construct a single-family residence in Washington, DC, suddenly shrank when the city unexpectedly changed its zoning laws.
“The developer bought the property, thinking it could be a four-story home that was 15 feet wide; but the city changed the zoning laws, so he had to build this skinny home in its place,” says listing agent Jennifer Young, of Keller Williams Chantilly Ventures. “It had to be scaled down to almost half the width. This home is now just 6 feet wide.”
Listed for $581,903, the slimmed-down, newly built residence has a reimagined design with one bedroom with 1.5 baths. And building the home was not without its obstacles.

“It’s like a single-wide mobile home without the wheels..............”

It’s less than half the width of single wide mobile home, apparently they run 14 to 18 ft wide and this home is 6 ft wide.
Yeah, I was thinking of a Camper trailer..................
The ‘shotgun house’ was the first thing I thought of when I saw the interior of this thing :-)
‘Shotgun’ is similar to a lot of the typical ‘Florida Cracker’ architecture.
#18; never picked up on that shotgun shack. Looked it up. Apparently Elvis was born in a shotgun shack. You’re never too old to learn something.
There are some brilliant ‘tiny home’ designs now. Certainly not for everyone, but very nice for one person, maybe a single retiree, who doesn’t want a lot to deal with:

It’s Washington DC - a narrow home is harder to hit in a drive-by shooting.
I know a couple that live on a “houseboat” in Seattle. Small, but luxurious 2-story place. Lots of custom woodwork, stain glass, etc. They had to adjust to the smaller space but love it.
We have a couple here on FR who live on a sailboat in Alaska; or at least, they used to be here.
... and there’s no room to store ammunition ... an absolute “must” for living in the historical swamp (i.e., DC).
“Skinny” home. “Tiny” home. All marketing BS to cover for the fact that no one can afford a decent home anymore. at some point, the public is going to wake up from all the media spin to realize that our standard of living is in decline. Kids aren’t going to live the life that their parents or grandparents did.
My truck camper is 80” wide.
BUTT ASS UGLY
A BS article. Here is a picture of the bedroom. Keep in mind that beds in the United States are 75 inches or more. Notice the space between the foot of the 75 plus inch bed and the wall?
It’s the new American way...Spend more, get less.
$600K ???
Ain’t no way.
LA building small studios for the “unhoused” 800,000+ each.
