If you're sleeping are you going to have enough time to wake up and run in the panic room?

shelling out thousands of dollars to outfit their homes with hidden rooms, bulletproof doors and a swath of other covert security systems to keep the baddies at bay should they come knocking.
A better investment might be your neighbors. Put some beer in the fridge and steaks on the grill and open the garage door.

A few remotely fired set-guns scattered throughout the house would probably be a good idea, too.

Another better investment might be to vote in politicians, prosecutors and judges who will actually enforce the law and keep violent criminals in jail.

Repeal NYC gun laws that make the average citizen sheep to be slaughtered by criminal wolves.

You can see Creative Home Engineering stuff right here:
https://hiddenpassageway.com/
You still would need a 12 gauge shot gun and and AR rifle with a 40 round mag.

I’m a big believer in having a secure room based on what fits your budget.
As a young husband I would put dead bolts on our bedroom door everywhere we lived so that the wife would be able to sleep safer when I was away, someone handy and owning a home might spend some money to add some reinforcement in the shared wall between the master bath and the bedroom, and replacing door trim and the bathroom door with something more substantial with whatever it takes to keep the door closed.
If your wife can handle the idea, a pistol under the sink is a nice touch.
