U.S. Sen. Katie Britt of Alabama introduced a bill today that would require child support throughout pregnancy and create a clearinghouse of adoption and anti-abortion pregnancy crisis centers to combat decreasing birth rates.
Britt introduced the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed Act (MOMS Act) alongside co-sponsors Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida) and Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.). Britt said the bill is an effort to strengthen support for pregnant women and new moms.
“This legislation is further evidence that you can absolutely be pro-life, pro-woman, and pro-family at the same time,” Britt said. “The MOMS Act advances a comprehensive culture of life, grows and strengthens families, and ensures moms have the opportunities and resources needed so they and their children can thrive and live their American Dreams.”
The bill comes amid a decline in birth rates in the United States. Only 3.6 million babies were born in 2023, the lowest number since 1979, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In a press release, Britt said she introduced her bill to support pregnant women and moms to reverse that decline. One major component would require states to extend child support obligations during pregnancy.

I thought same.
That’s for certain
I would agree to this if the dad is allowed to request a paternity test. I was not with my oldest son’s father when I got pregnant. He payed child support for all 19 years. We had some up and downs, but we coparented well. My son is now 26 and has a relationship with his father. Had I been allowed to receive child support when I was pregnant I would gladly allowed a DNA test if asked. My son’s father never requested one after birth. Our son looks just like his father. I think the parent who doesn’t have full custody should pay child support. I know dads who had custody of their children and the mom payed child support. It goes both ways.
ABSOLUTELY
The Maury Show made a living out of this issue.
[Truly a stupid idea!]
Don’t worry. Laz has this robot thing all figured out.
Stop the CRAP!
Maybe this is a problem, maybe it’s not, but is NOT a Federal problem.
Stay in your Lane Senator!
If they’re already paying child support then they won’t need to sign the birth certificate?
Idiotic pandering. So some deep thinkers in the GOP have caved to the media and other Democrats, and decided to make a futile effort to combat the media perception that being a pro-life Republican means being “anti-woman”.
Then they come up with this drivel, and in case anyone missed the real point they make certain to declare “you can absolutely be pro-life, pro-woman, and pro-family at the same time”. And anti-male, apparently. Another real smart move by the Stupid Party in an election year.
Of course they make sure a female senator takes the lead on this, because optics.
All of this is somehow meant to attract “pro-women” (i.e. pro-abortionist) voters. It won’t. The real women in this country, and those who support them, already vote the right way.
Is this necessary?
Is this proper?
Is this covered by Article I Section 8?
Seems Fedzilla has a left AND a right arm.
A sure way to create conflict and resentment in relationships.
The horse has left the barn. Establishment of the child support system in every state is mandated under Title IV(D) of the Social security Act. States can have their own laws but have to adopt certain foundational principles in order to get federal funding to operate the system. This addresses the “no retroactive support” rule—- you can’t get support effective any earlier than the date court papers are filed. A better approach would be to allow retroactive establishment back to the date of conception, but filed within a certain short time after baby is born alive and paternity established
I dont think any man should pay child support unless he is married to mom. If mom gets pregnant, her problem.
Also I think that no man has any custody rights to any child unless he was in a marital relationshp with the child’s mother. Sorry guys no No access.
We’re going to get slaughtered in November. I can’t believe how stupid republicans are. Let’s give the democrats even more issues to run on.
So do I. In fact, both paternity and maternity tests should be required before the BC is issued to establish the biological father and mother.
Yes, DNA test for the mother, too, because some babies have been switched or stolen.
Ok, how do you prove parentage without harming the pre-born baby?
people used to be responsible for their actions.
#believewomen lol.
We are going to enjoy having this idiot Katie the college cheerleader social climber for the next 40 or 50 years. Good job McConnell, God job Cornyn, good job Alabama.
And how exactly do you do a paternity test at 8 weeks? Sounds expensive if even possible. Katie is a moron.
