Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) praised House Democrat Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) in an interview with Politico, saying that he and the Democrat leader have “more in common than people might think.”
Johnson said about Jeffries:
I have. Hakeem is a good man. We’ve worked well together. We have a lot more in common than people might think. You know, he’s from New York and I’m from Louisiana. While we have lots of disagreements on policies and the fine points of policy, I think you can appreciate people for who they are as a person. I think that’s what we’re called to do. And he and I both kind of share the worldview on that. I can appreciate that he’s a good family man. We have a lot in common in that regard. And he lost his father recently, I lost mine three days before I got elected to Congress. We’ve talked about that.
…
And I think what we’ve appreciated about one another is that I believe that when Hakeem Jeffries is telling me something, I believe he’s telling me the truth. I believe he is a man of his word. And I think he believes that about me as well. That’s a big thing in Washington. You know, trust is a rare commodity around here. [Emphasis added]

I would think, simply as an ontological matter, that the "real Republicans" are those who picked Johnson to lead their caucus -- and who continue to support him -- in the first place.
What we're seeing with Johnson is what the Republican party is, at least insofar as Congress is concerned. Not wanting to believe that simple truth doesn't change anything.
If you want a landslide Republican House victory, remove him and put Jefferies in and then run against his and Johnsons' policies. Twenty to thirty MAGA seats guaranteed.
I saw someone on Twitter/X refer to today's Republicans as being "embarrassed Democrats," and I thought that captured the point rather pithily.
Problem is, too many of the fossilized Boomer types around here are simply incapable of seeing the light, as you did, and in doing what you did. They are wedded to their decades-long way of thinking, and, like a tethered pony at a carnival, can only ever walk around and around the same dusty track. Going in circles, never stopping but also never getting anywhere.
Many such cases.
He is being totally blackmailed over something. I bet it has to do with this Christian past.
Jeffries is already in charge.
Gag me with a spoon! I’ll repeat myself -— Mike Johnson is either pure evil or dumb as a box of rocks!
They must have videos of him doing gay porn.
Turning another Christian nation over to Islam.
I now despise Speaker Johnson.
Almost every member of congress should be publicly flogged for letting this happen. Then deported to the nearest moslem country, see how they like it.
Nobody in the Swamp loves Jesus anymore?
Shame on all of them.
The world is on fire. The United States is being destroyed.
Here’s a list of our top four political leaders:
1. Joe Biden. President.
2. Kamala Harris. Vice president.
3. Mike Johnson. Speaker of the House.
4. Chuck Schumer. Senate Majority Leader.
America, you can do better. Please do better.

Anyone ready for a J6 re-do?
For real this time? Hawaiian shirts, spicy boogaloo music, the works...
We all KNOW it’s the only way this is getting fixed. We all keep hoping that it’ll fix itself...
We all know that’s a delusion...
Yeh, Mike we’ve noticed. 🙄
I sincerely believe the Uniparty has fake conservative ‘ringers’ that they can swap into positions of leadership as-needed....they sneak a Uniparty loyalist and at first we applaud it.
I believe Mike Johnson was a ‘ringer’ as described above.
You know how sometimes a boulder will start rolling downhill? At first all it takes is a tiny shove, then it rolls faster all by itself.
Actually, I think we do! Uniparty/Socialist/Communist party members!
Well we know for sure that Johnson does not keep his word to his own constituents. He prefers to keep his word to democrats instead. /spit
I’m pulling a Whiley Coyote up on the hill jumping up and down on the boulder...
The down ticket is going to suffer. That’s probably why Johnson has taken off the mask.
