A woman who shouted and waved aggressively at a cyclist on the pavement (sidewalk), causing her to fall into the path of a car, has had her conviction for manslaughter overturned and walked free from court.
CCTV showed Auriol Grey shout "get off the f****** pavement (sidewalk)" as Celia Ward approached her in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, in October 2020.
The 77-year-old then veered off the 2.4m-wide path into the road.
Mrs Ward, a grandmother, died after she was struck by a car.
Grey, who has cerebral palsy and was described by her lawyer as "partially blind", was given a three-year jail sentence in March 2023 after being convicted of manslaughter.
But the Court of Appeal ruled today that the manslaughter conviction should be overturned and she walked free from court.
Dame Victoria Sharp, sitting with Mrs Justice Yip and Mrs Justice Farbey, said: "In our judgment, the prosecution case was insufficient even to be left to the jury."
She added: "In all the circumstances, we have no hesitation in concluding that the appellant's conviction for manslaughter is unsafe."

Most definitely that conviction should be overturned.
At 77, Mrs. Ward has had plenty of time to know bicycles don’t belong on the sidewalk. Really, anyone over the age of 12 should know they’re essentially asking to be shoved into the street.
It all depends on whether it was a regular sidewalk or a ‘path’ as described in the article (2.4 meters wide) and bikes allowed.
Furthermore, she wasn’t shoved, she veered off by her own choice instead of stopping and walking her bike past the disabled person.
She made poor choices and they caught up with her.
They don’t try to hide it.
I am of the opinion that if you ride a bicycle on a roadway, it should be licensed and insured just like a car. Otherwise, ride on the sidewalk.
“Auriol Grey shout “get off the f****** pavement (sidewalk)””
Just how does one shout in parentheticals?
In a very loud stage whisper.
This should have been a civil case, not a criminal case.
The parenthetical was likely for American speakers of the King’s English.
Licensed to ride a bicycle or even just walk across the street? How about drivers just learn to be aware that the street doesn’t belong to just them?
Seemed like the cyclist was on a path where bikes were allowed (Road is very narrow hence the path) going with the flow of traffic. Grey was walking against the flow of traffic yelling and motioning to get out of the way. In dsignated bike paths adjacent to the road its the walking pedestrian that usually yields to the bicyclist (Since they are going at a fast pace).
I think the writer should be executed.
Just how does one shout in asterisks?....................
I just think non-motorized bikes are more closely related to pedestrians than are cars to bikes or pedestrians. By weight alone, a bike shouldn’t be ridden on a road if a sidewalk is available. Where I live, roads are busy, sidewalks see very little foot-traffic in town.
And she's driving just why???????
Ooops, never mind. The article wasn’t clear. I got the impression she was driving a car.
She was a pedestrian shouting and screaming I believe...
Yeah she got manslaughter conviction for her shouting.
I thought it was harsh
