Kristi Noem calls dog shooting report ‘fake news’ but insists on need to kill animal

Kristi Noem, the governor of South Dakota whose chance of being Donald Trump’s presidential running mate was widely deemed over after she published a description of shooting dead a dog and a goat, claimed reports of the story were “fake news” but also that the dog in question, Cricket, a 14-month-old wirehaired pointer, was “extremely dangerous” and deserved her fate.

“You know how the fake news works,” Noem told Fox News. “They leave out some or most of the facts of a story, they put the worst spin on it. And that’s what’s happened in this case.

Do you want her as VP? If not, nothing matters. She’ll leave as governor and get her big pension. The only ones who care at all are the ones who want her for VP. By the way, this story was over especially with the college roots. But guess what? She wanted to be out front again and made it a story again. When will she let dead dogs lie?

She clearly does. She wrote a book on leadership. That a big tell.

You’re gonna ruin the thread by introducing facts.

When will people mention “China King” as a viable option?

She’s right that this is just Fake News. See my post 19.

So many people are swallowing the PETA Kool aid and are jumping to false conclusions: “She murdered a puppy... She should have trained it...she’s an evil psychopath.... She should have adopted it out....etc”.

When in fact the only thing she did wrong was to write about it. Which has prompted snowflakes to an intense degree of pearl clutching.

Her problem is that she shot an equally dangerous dog

You're comparing a wirehaired pointer to a pit bull? C'mon...

Yes. Pit Bulls are unpredictable and dangerous. But most pit bulls do not kill chickens and attack their owners like Cricket did.

Once a dog has the taste of blood, they are dangerous.

Had Noem shot a pit bull, she’d be praised as a smart and decent woman. Her problem is that she shot an equally dangerous dog which happened to look so sweet and innocent.

It's pretty obvious, you've never been around to see victims of pit bull attacks.

“Right. In horse country, farm and ranch country, dogs that attack livestock are shot. Period.”

But do the shooters write about it in books?

Do the shooters expect someone to call them a hero for taking the shot?

It does seem that Noem expected her actions would invite admiration; and that is not happening on a large scale.

Perhaps you misunderstood- Now a days many people would take it to the vet to be put down. Decades ago… at least in rural and farm communities… this was how it was done. But, many people do not understand it.

Perhaps it’s still done like this in those areas… I can only post on my experience from that era.

I hope this puts into perspective Kristi Noem’s dog problem:

When I was a kid, my brother and I would always have Zipper (our dog) with us where ever we would go. We had a chicken farm near our house and we took Zipper with us to check out the chickens. My brother foolishly opened the gate to the 1000 chickens and Zipper raced in, killing chickens as fast as he could. With the gate open, Zipper chased half the chickens out. We had dead chickens and chickens all over the neighborhood.

When my dad found a chicken in our bathroom he suspected something was wrong with our neighbor’s chickens. He went over to the chicken farm and found a very angry farmer. If he could, our neighbor would have got his gun and shot our dog.

My dad went all over the neighborhood, collecting chickens and returning them back to the farm. It took two days to get a small percentage of the chickens back. He had to pay for the rest, which was the price of a week’s wages. If my brother hadn’t taken the blame for opening the gate, my dad would have taken Zipper out into the yard and shot him. When the nearest shelter was 50 miles away, that’s how things happen in rural areas.

Kristy Noem was raised on the family farm in rural Hamlin County. In 1994 she left college early to run the family farm. She added a hunting lodge and restaurant to the family property. Hamlin has a population of only 6,164, mostly dedicated to agriculture. People who judge people in such areas with urban standards, are biting the hands that feed them. Much of the ingredients that makes dog food are produced in such areas.

Don’t worry I won’t be apologizing. You should be. Two years is how long it takes a puppy to grow up. And wire haired terriers can’t hunt until they are 3-5 years old. Properly trained.

So, you didn’t see the AKC definition of “Puppy”, right?

A 14 month old (killer) dog is not a puppy. Sorry.

You present irrelevant details. No evidence.

It’s a small point anyway.

I’m done with you.

She lost me when she vetoed the Trans athlete bill. That was really stupid. Now she brags about shooting a puppy.

Face it.

She’s stupid.

As Kurt Schlichter hilariously pointed out in today’s column, rural people understand the need to put down a dangerous dog, but urbanites will only see “killed a puppy” (even though it wasn’t a puppy) and reject her. Was an unforced error including it in her book, and makes her a liability on a national ticket. She’s still hot, though......
