Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) received a stunning rebuke Wednesday on what should have been a slam-dunk resolution to oppose antisemitism followed by a rare procedural defeat on legislation to clarify mining regulations.
The events, hours after Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) announced they would force a vote to expel Johnson, do little to show Johnson has a firm hand on the wheel.
The Antisemitism Awareness Act, introduced by Reps. Mike Lawler (R-NY) and Jared Moskowitz (R-FL), would mandate that when the Department of Education enforces federal anti-discrimination laws it uses a definition of antisemitism put forward by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. While most House members would likely agree that antisemitism is bad, the hastily introduced legislation sparked a firestorm.
Antisemitism is wrong, but I will not be voting for the Antisemitism Awareness Act of 2023 (H.R. 6090) today that could convict Christians of antisemitism for believing the Gospel that says Jesus was handed over to Herod to be crucified by the Jews.

It should teach us that if we don’t get rid of the Deep State we’re fools to expect anything to change.
“Tucker Carlson has said he’s been told outright by Congress members that they are afraid of the CIA; he believes they are being threatened.”
Listen to what Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer said:
“Let me tell you: You take on the intelligence community — they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you,” Schumer told MSNBC’s host Rachel Maddow.”
Again, that’s the Senate Majority Leader admitting that Congressmen are afraid of the intelligence community. I couldn’t believe that wasn’t front page news when he said it. I believe even the very few who may be clean are afraid of child porn being “found” on their computers. So, who really runs the country again?
agree. Mr. Johnson...What’s in YOUR closet?
Exactly.
There was a woman on X who claimed that she was trafficked sexually and was in a basement room when Bernie Sanders was brought in and told he would rape a young boy on camera, or his detained family would be killed. When she came out with the story in 2017(?) Maryland authorities took her child from her and said they wouldn’t give the child back unless she stopped telling that story. She says now that she is fighting it legally.
Hard to know whether her story is accurate or not, but if it was around 30 years earlier as she said that would put it around 1987, which is when the sex trafficking ring in Omaha, NE was running - grooming teens from Boys Town to go to DC and make blackmail tapes on people like Sanders.
What she said was that it would only be when the people who were threatened and the people who were abused to make these tapes come together to tell the story, that the crimes could be known, investigated, and prosecuted. That would also include any witnesses as well. But that is what needs to happen. Unfortunately, many people involved in exposing that trafficking in Omaha died in mysterious circumstances.
I wish there would be a way to let both victims in these cases know that it is for their own safety to come forward ASAP.
Oh, and BTW, the FBI was part of that conspiracy and stated to NE state senator John DeCamp that anybody who accused Larry King Jr (the head of the trafficking ring) would be taking on the whole FBI.
Could you refresh my memory please; why did dominion have him fired if he didn’t question the election?
I still can’t believe that they mentioned Jesus in the bill. Boneheads.
Because they ALL have nasty skeletons in their closet from their bare-knuckled climbs to power.
Marjorie is right this time.
Johnson could’ve learned a vital lesson about appeasing democrats for their feigned “friendship” from the experiences of H.W. Bush and John McCain, but it appears he may not possess the necessary appreciation of history.
Could be. It would make sense.
But even people without skeletons can have “evidence” planted on their computer. Or can have their family threatened. Vault 7 showed the wide range of criminal capabilities the CIA has amassed for itself.
I’m sure some people like the benefits of being in the CIA’s “club”. But I suspect that many would be really thankful if we could get them out from underneath the thugs.
There was a different Herod that Pilate sent Jesus to but Herod sent Jesus back to Pilate. But I also thought it sounded weird to not refer to Pontius Pilate.
The Jews actually didn’t have authority to put anybody to death. They would have stoned Jesus to death if they had. Dr Paul Meier believes the Talmud may contain the actual arrest warrant for Jesus, calling for Him to be stoned to death, but it says He was hanged.
It’s interesting that the Jews cried out, “His blood be upon us, and on our children”, because the blood of the first covenant - the sacrifice for Israel’s sin - was actually sprinkled on the people as a way for them to participate in that sacrifice. Jesus’ blood is the new covenant, the completion of the sacrificial system, which ultimately became impossible because the sacrifices were only to happen at the Temple, and the Temple was destroyed shortly after Jesus’ death.
Factual content should not be censored.
Spiritually, I am just as guilty as the Jews of that day. It was my sin that put Him there just as much as anybody else’s sin. It always knocks me over when I think of what He was willing to go through to save me. In a world of taking, He is the One who gives. I hurt for those who don’t know that love.
Herod the Great had two sons also known as Herod: Antipater ruled Galilee, and Archelaus who ruled Judea, etc.
She is referring to Herod Antipas not Herod the great. The same Herod who had John the Baptist beheaded.
Jesus himself said those who handed him over to Pilate had the greater sin. Pilate did try to pass the buck by sending Jesus to Herod for judgement but Herod refused and sent him back. In Acts 2 Peter himself said the Jews were responsible for killing Jesus “by the hands of lawless men”.
