The wild-looking Russian 'turtle tanks' that keep showing up may not be as crazy as they seem
Business Insider ^ | 4/29/24 | Jake Epstein

Facing a myriad of deadly threats on the battlefield, exploding drones being a particularly serious threat, Russia and Ukraine have both taken extra steps to safeguard their tanks and vehicles by outfitting them with extra layers of protective armor.

This improvised armor, sometimes little more than a chain-link cage welded around the outside of a vehicle, is essentially an effort to provide a last-ditch defense against inbound munitions like artillery, anti-tank missiles, or small drones packed with explosives, especially the latter.

While both militaries have used such tactics, Russia, in recent weeks, has unveiled a strange-looking — albeit apparently effective — innovation that has been referred to by some Ukraine war observers as the "turtle tank."

breaking out cannons and catapults

I've found that cats don't "Pult" very well. Mainly because they are very hard to get mounted to the Device.🤪

Clicky the pic.

The thing about Russian society is that they ENCOURAGE INNOVATION

Yeah: "You will double production - we don't care how - or you will be shot, your wife will be sent to a whorehouse, your children will be sent to a gulag, and your grandchildren will be sent to an orphanage!"

That really encourages innovation.

Regards,

Ever hear of the Rhino Tank? Same deal, probably some Russian grunt in the field, tired of watching his buddies getting killed, figured out what stumped all the headquarter engineers.

“The invention of a hedge-breaching device is generally credited to Curtis G. Culin, a sergeant in the 2nd Armored Division’s 102nd Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron. However, military historian Max Hastings notes that Culin was inspired by “a Tennessee hillbilly named Roberts”,[6] who during a discussion about how to overcome the bocage, said “Why don’t we get some saw teeth and put them on the front of the tank and cut through these hedges?” Rather than joining in the laughter that greeted this remark, Culin recognized the idea’s potential.[6] A prototype tusk-like assembly was created by welding steel scrap (from destroyed “Czech hedgehogs”) to the front of a tank to create a hedge cutter. The teeth helped prevent the vulnerable underside of the tank from being exposed while it knocked a hole in the hedgerow wall.[11][6] On 14 July, Lieutenant General Omar Bradley inspected the tank[11] and “watched in awe as a hedgerow exploded ... to make way for the Sherman bursting through”.[6] According to Hastings, Culin, “an honest man”, attempted to give credit to Roberts, but this was forgotten in the publicity surrounding the invention. Hastings concludes: “[Culin] became a very American kind of national hero”.

“Yeah: “You will double production - we don’t care how”

Actually, 7-fold, at least regarding artillery shells.

“That’a absolutely hilarious. Innovation is the very last thing anyone thinks of when someone mentions Russia.”

Except Ukrainian drone operators!!!

I look forward to another year of Russia flailing around on the battlefield with only incremental territorial gains, like the last 18 months! By then, Russia will have over 200,000 dead troops, LOL

Your Russian handlers have already given you the heads-up on impending action?

Don’t worry, Putin will find some way to screw it up, like he’s done every time so far ... that’s why we’re now in Year3! LOL

Unfortunately for you Alinsky types, Putin is NOT the one running the military - Instead, REAL MEN are running the Russian military, unlike s-show that runs Neocon countries.

Don’t feed the war pigs. I’ve learned the hard way there is nothing to be gained by engaging the uke zealots. Their position is not rational (unless they are leftist moles or are benefiting personally from the carnage) so you will not get rational discourse.

That’s what I always wondered if warfare went complete drone. It would be like a video game, only much more polluting.
