Brown University’s corporate board will vote on a proposal to divest from Israeli interests, the university announced Tuesday, a major victory for student protesters who have taken over dozens of college campuses nationwide.
Protesters at Brown will tear down their encampment at the center of campus and cease demonstrations through the end of the school year as part of an agreement reached Tuesday, University President Christina Paxson said.
“The devastation and loss of life in the Middle East has prompted many to call for meaningful change, while also raising real issues about how best to accomplish this,” Paxson wrote in a statement. “Brown has always prided itself on resolving differences through dialog, debate and listening to each other.”
“I cannot condone the encampment, which was in violation of University policies,” she continued. “Also, I have been concerned about the escalation in inflammatory rhetoric that we have seen recently, and the increase in tensions at campuses across the country. I appreciate the sincere efforts on the part of our students to take steps to prevent further escalation.”

Is she kidding me??
I’ve made my opinion known here about women in power positions. I’m speaking as a woman. I don’t care what position it is; politics or even a boss for the most menial job imaginable. They can’t handle authority. They want the title but they don’t want to do the difficult work. I was lucky enough to work for over 50 years at jobs that I liked and did well and expected bosses to do the same. Problems arose only when there was a female boss.
This is nonsense. As someone said today on NewsNation or FOX, students are not at those universities to tell the universities how or what to invest in. That’s none of their business. If their parents can afford the tuition at those elite universities, they may want to ask their parent’s what their stock portfolio contains.
She’s a nutjob if she believes that
“”excellence and innovation in undergraduate education, its transformational vision in fueling economic development through community and government partnerships, and its commitment to inclusion and access.””
Isn’t it amazing how they can put words together to make it seem as if they’re accomplishing something? They couldn’t tell you in plain English what that statement even means.
This is the South African model of long, slow government overthrow.
Maybe donors should be holding a Brown divestment vote.
She is a convert. Originally Quaker. Married a Jewish man.
A significant fractions of these “protestors” are themselves Jewish.
We’ve imported a 3000 year old war that goes back to Samson and the Phillistines.
Divest from Middle Eastern oil.
Not at all. The Philistines were Greek and came by sea. The Palestinians are Arabs many of whom came in the 20th century from Syria, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Cancel all Federal Funding and tax their Endowments at a 99% rate.
Also, disallow foreign donations.

Drill, baby, drill.
It’s called buying your way into heaven.
Poison Ivy.
Go ahead and “divest.” Meaningless theater. You sell the stocks ... others buy the stocks. There is absolutely no effect on Israel or Israeli companies.
So now 18-22 year olds run our universities.
Time to defund every one of them that doesn’t stand up
to these paid agitators.
They won’t recognize the reference to an ex-President’s term but....
Mission Accomplished.
