Video footage showed the dramatic moment a SWAT team rammed its way into a North Carolina house after three officers on a U.S. Marshals Task Force serving a warrant were killed.
The officers were serving a felon wanted for possessing a firearm Monday at the home, police said.
The officers were first shot at by the wanted suspect as they approached the suburban home in Charlotte. Three officers were killed and five more were hurt. The cops were able to shoot dead the felon in the front yard, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings said.
A second person then fired on officers from inside the home where a high-powered rifle was found, Jennings said.
A woman and a 17-year-old boy were found in the home after a three-hour standoff that included armored vehicles crashing into the suburban home in a tree-lined neighborhood and tearing off doorways and windows.
The two are being questioned, Jennings said.
'Today is an absolute tragic day for the city of Charlotte and for the profession of law enforcement,' Jennings said, according to WRAL. 'Today we lost some heroes that are out to just simply try to keep our community safe.'

Why do I get the feeling we will come to find out police have have had this guy under surveillance, knew his routine, and could have picked him up outside his home anytime.

They thought that they would have a grand or time shooting up his house. Should have arrested him elsewhere.
Um yea. Sounds like they chose poorly
War on Cops 2024.
And of course the perp’s names have not been released.
This was in my daughter’s neighborhood.
You didn’t read what you posted, did you....

This SWAT raid along with the Tank was entirely justified.
Morgana makes a good point. They could have nabbed him when he went to the Dairy Queen.
I am NOT defending this guy, but they could have arrested him outside the home and wanted to scare everyone by showing they could take any house and stomp on everyone inside. How did that intimidation technique work for you, Marshals?
The CEO of the Little Rock airport was killed recently in a raid before sunrise, apparently for suspected unauthorized gun sales, but that story died quickly (and was ignored by the national media). I don’t think he had a prior record as a felon.
Guess this guy didn’t really have “A Castle” did he ?
The neighborhood is 70% non-white.
My thoughts exactly.
The only way to keep a felon from getting a gun is to keep him in jail.
They have tanks on hand nearby to suburban neighborhoods?
In this case, I have to agree.
Sounds like a total fuster cluck.
When there are more of us wounded and killed than them, it sounds like a fair fight. I like the saying, “If you find yourself in a fair fight, you didn’t plan correctly”.
And how many times does serving a warrant end like this?
They did something they had probably done hundreds of times very safely. It's not like they swatted the house unnecessarily in lieu of serving the warrant.
After what recently happened in Syracuse, NY, you’d think LE might want to do things a little differently.
