The Biden EPA’s Plan to Ration Electricity. New rules are designed to eliminate fossil-fuel power plants. Energy scarcity is sure to result.

The Biden Administration’s regulations are coming so fast and furious that it’s hard even to keep track, but we’re trying. On Thursday the Environmental Protection Agency proposed its latest doozy—rules that will effectively force coal plants to shut down while banning new natural-gas plants.

“With the announcement today, the power sector can make planning decisions with a full array of information,” EPA’s press release declares. Translation: Get moving with the green-energy transition because we’re determined to eliminate fossil-fuel power.

Barack Obama’s regulation spurred a wave of coal plant closures. Now President Biden is trying to finish the job by tightening mercury, wastewater and ash disposal standards. EPA is also replacing the Obama Clean Power Plan that the Supreme Court struck down with a rule requiring that coal plants and new gas-fired plants adopt costly and unproven carbon-capture technology by 2032.

Section 111 of the Clean Air Act says the EPA can regulate pollutants from stationary sources through the “best system of emission reduction” that is “adequately demonstrated.” Carbon capture is neither the best nor adequately demonstrated. As of last year, only one commercial-scale coal plant in the world used carbon capture, and no gas-fired plants did.

In order to provide adequate electricity during nights, cloudy skies and still winds the same fossil fuel generating capacity must be built and ready to fill the shortfall. There will be horrendous blackouts when people need electricity the most.

The intensity will be legend, and America’s enemies will take advantage of us.

In addition to being a fuel, coal is also a feedstock for many chemicals. These are used in every from plastics to pharmaceuticals. Get rid of these, and we’re back to the Middle Ages.

What needs banning is the EPA as well as several other totally useless and fascist agencies.

rolling brown outs and screaming high electric rates

Already there in California.

The best part is the alerts I get during heat waves NOT to plug in EVs.

We’re determined to eliminate fossil-fuel power.

After the Chinese kill our grid system for a few days everyone holds burning wood for light and heat.....

They abuse the use of stupidity

You are totally right. That’s how normal programs should be managed. There should also be periodic program reviews and/or audits to ensure that the objectives and performance standards are being achieved.

But there is no such thing as accountability with the DC crowd. Nobody knows where the money goes or how its being spent.

The IG offices in each department/agency are just there to act as a firewall against outside scrutiny. The whole system is a sham.

“This is why they flood the country with illegals and give them free stuff...for a while anyway.”

The free stuff giveaway has been continuing for selected groups since the Johnson Administration initiated the “War on Poverty” in the mid 1960’s. Sixty years later, the government gravy train has grown exponentially. Section 8 housing, SNAP, Medicaid, student loan forgiveness, free cell phones, earned income credit, college scholarships, subsidies and grants of many kinds.

Congress and the president have demonstrated they will never halt the expansion of the gravy train, much less reduce entitlement spending. However, one day the US Treasury will float a bond issues and there will be no buyers. On that day government will be forced with a choice between draconian cuts in welfare, defense and the bureaucracy or the hyperinflation that goes with printing unlimited amounts of money from thin air.

The day of reckoning is fast approaching.

I am considering a move to Redding CA.

The city’s power comes from Shasta dam and is $.14/kwh around the clock.

But somehow I fear that will one day be declared unfair and illegal...even though it’s 100% hydro.

"...but not before something can take its place efficiently and economically....."

Nuclear.

The rest of the "First" world seems to get this, except the country that essentially pioneered and invented nuclear power.

Our government is a ship of fools.

And exactly how are these morons going to power all of their EV's?

The stupidity is breathtaking...unless EV's are just a talking point for their larger agenda.

How quickly the lessons of the last Texas blackout are forgotten. During that blackout not only was there no electricity but also no water and no sewage treatment. Frozen and refrigerated food in stores spoiled and hospitals functioned only on emergency power. Pity the fools driving EVs. Imagine that devastation in large areas of the country.

The ONLY thing which truly allowed the removal of coal from the grid was cheap natural gas, due to the invention of hydro-fracking

In 20 years, gas as a percentage of electricity generation from natural gas went from 15% to nearly 45% now in 2024

The main thing that allowed "renewables" to grow was strict government mandates funded with massive debt at zero interest rates and cheap raw materials from China. That situation has changed.
