More and more people, including Pope Francis, are asking Ukraine to drop its defense and sit at the negotiation table with Russia. Citing the stalemate on the battlefield and Russia’s superior resources, they urge Ukraine’s leadership to consider a deal. What exactly that would involve is largely left unsaid. But it would clearly involve freezing the conflict, resigning Ukraine’s occupied territory to Russia in exchange for an end to the fighting.
My country, Moldova, knows all about that kind of bargain. A small western neighbor of Ukraine, Moldova experienced Russia’s first post-Soviet war of aggression, which ended with a cease-fire agreement in 1992. Thirty-two years later, 1,500 Russian troops are still stationed on internationally recognized Moldovan territory, despite the Kremlin’s formal agreement to withdraw them in 1994 and then once again in 1999. The case shows that Russia simply cannot be trusted.
But there’s a bigger problem for Ukraine than Russian untrustworthiness. It’s that freezing a conflict, without a full peace deal, simply does not work. For three decades, it has fractured Moldova, hindered national development and given Russia continued opportunities to meddle with Moldovan life. A frozen conflict, we should remember, is still a conflict. Anyone calling for Ukraine to settle for one should heed Moldova’s cautionary tale.
...the starkest division is in education. Above Transnistrian schools, the Russian and Transnistrian — but not Moldovan — flags are mounted. There, as well as in the press, Romanian is written in Cyrillic rather than Latin script, just as it was in the Soviet Union. In history classes, pupils learn that ethnic Romanians on the right bank of the Dniester are fascists who want to kill them.

So you would want Russia having a land border with the USA?
Fury —> Biden’s strategy was to let Putin take over Ukraine - that’s why Biden
1. in 2021 end, withdrew American advisors in Ukraine, giving Putin a free hand
2. offered to help Zelenskyy run from Kyiv - thereby prompting a collapse like in Kabul
Biden has consistently not given Ukraine the support to win, just a support to keep a stalemate.

We’re talking about now.
Nice whatabouttery
oh that’s bull.
In 2008 Georgia applied to join NATO. That was rejected by Germany and France for fear of “antagonizing Russia”.
6 weeks after that, Russia invaded Georgia.
Not to “stop genocide”, not to “respond to an Orange revolution”, rather to “invade and conquer”
The old Russia is the new Genghis Khan line. To conqueror the world is their dream.
I would remind you Russia has a declining population, why do they need more land? Videos like this show a new phenomenon in Russia….villages are being abandoned by the hundreds. Americans are moving to Russia now (or were before the war) as farm land is record breaking cheap.
Tons of videos like this:

You know what, I’m far more concerned about how things are going to crap in the USA than I am about what’s happening in Oceania, Eurasia or Eastasia.
(Either Orwell was psychic or someone read his book)
Now I don’t GAF.
What I dont get is the (seeming) hundreds of people here who are so concerned with Moldavia’s borders, Polands borders, Ukraines borders, Israel’s border…yet in the time it took me to write this probably 10 3rd world illegals crossed in to our country.
Even worse they are totally unvetted, do they have?:
Diseases
Mental illness
Gang activity
Criminality
Sexual abnormalities
Drug and alcohol problems
Terrorism
CCP
On and on?
Who knows and apparently WHO CARES???… (well I do)

Thanks for the reply.
I don’t believe those are straw man arguments, as they were based on the hypothetical I noted.
NATO’s credibility as an international organization was destroyed when it was used to engage in military campaigns that has nothing to do with defending its European member countries against Soviet/Russian aggression. I’ll cite the regime change wars in Serbia and Libya as two perfect examples of this.

Well then, let’s just wait awhile and everything will be ok, no?
Those were legitimate questions about what the policy toward Russia should be? There needs to be a serious debate, not dismissed as Russian appeasing or collaboration. I have three military age sons; I’m not going to let them go fight in one of those dirty European ethnic border wars. That’s what this is all about. The idea that Russia is going to take over all of Europe or try to get Alaska back is ridiculous.
The mistake Ukraine made was paying The crack head Hunter Biden, then getting involved with the Child sex pervert, senile, crooked traitor Joe Biden
Boston is the only choice that comports with America First.
but you took the time to read and reply
This story is painting the Uke situation like a N Korea/S Korea and a N Vietnam/S Vietnam situation where there will always be the chance of war. With the Korea’s, a firm military posture is stopping the commies.
The Kennedy’s withdrew military supplies from the S Viets and see what happened - communists over ran the South.
The point is, if this analogy is true, then the Ukes must be treated the same as the South Koreans, being with a strong military presence after a negotiated settlement. I’d say a good negotiated agreement would be to allow NATO bases in Ukraine after the war as well as the Uke’s joining NATO. It would give the Uke’s a footing similar to what S Korea has.
you give more than AF as you read and then posted a nonsensical whatabouttery reply
Yet you seem to continuously read and post on articles about those borders.
Why?
I don’t even open articles about topics I don’t care about, leave alone writing comments on them
I called them straw men arguments as you gave 3 options which are not the only options available.
