The Brightline West system will reach speeds of 200 miles per hour across a 218-mile route between Las Vegas and three California stops including Rancho Cucamonga, about 40 miles east of Los Angeles...The project received $3 billion in funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the rest will be privately funded...

One terror attack on the 200 mph choo choo will end that boondoggle in record time.
“Land, see ‘Snatch’!”
They haven’t quite figured that one out yet in Europe, where the high-speed trains run at 196 mph. But that’s not saying they won’t.
Makes more sense than the California high speed rail from Merced to Bakersfield. The casinos should be shaken down to subsidize it, however.
The Brightline rail in Florida construction to get tourists to Disney World seems to be proceeding nicely. Saw a story that projected ridership is down 21% for the year from earlier projections however, and tickets are expensive (up to $270 for Miami to Orlando).
The Illegals Express. LA of the east in the desert.
“you see, it can be done”
Because in Europe they don’t share the rails with Freight, like we do here.
1. The private investment (and it will be privately run) is more than three times the public investment.
2. There are many times more annual S.Cal. visitors to Las Vegas as there are visitors between S.F. and S. Cal, making the new line more feasible - in terms of passenger revenues, than the stupid gpvernment built S.F. to L.A, line.
3. Most of what California is contributing is land along the I-15 right of way.
4. What AMTRAK and S.Cal. rail system will add will be a train hub in the Rancho Cucamonga area for both the new line from LasVegas and the existing train line that runs between San Bernardino and L.A.
5. Caveat - what they missed was a direct connection to the Ontario Airport on the south edge of Rancho Cucamonga.
This venture has tons more possiblity for success than the S.F. to L.A. line.
They do at the city terminals. The fastest the trains do on those tracks is about 137 mph though.
And back on 3/11 in Madrid, Spain, it was commuter trains that got hit.
I enjoy vegas...people are happy and friendly...casinos are not Indian and they have to abide by laws.
JFTR, “privately run” doesn’t mean completely out of the fare revenue or private finance.
How long have promoters been pushing the high speed line between the Dallas Police headquarters and Northwest Mall in Houston (with a stop in a suburban area of Roans Prairie (population 56) Texas?
I used to enjoy in the early 70s.
Tearing down The Sands became problematic for me.
Yes, there are only parts where they get up to those high speeds.
We took the TGV from Lyon to Paris a few years, that thing was fast.
Ah, yes, my man Mel! Good grief, did that guy have talent.
The casinos could subsidize it, so it might work.
I dunno about this one. Las Vegas is a house of cards. Collapses with a turn of events in the economy. Should taxpayers subsidize gamblers? They already subsidize billionaire sports teams. The people who profit most should pay 100%>. It sounds too much like the Robber Baron Industrial Complex.
