Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego is a United States Marine Corps military installation in San Diego, California. It lies between San Diego Bay and Interstate 5, adjacent to San Diego International Airport and the former Naval Training Center San Diego. MCRD

San Diego's main mission is the initial training of enlisted recruits living west of the Mississippi River. Over 21,000 recruits are trained each year. The Depot also is the home to the Marine Corps' Recruiter School and Western Recruiting Region's Drill Instructors School.

The mission of the Recruit Depot and the Western Recruiting Region is to exercise operational control of enlisted recruiting operations in the 8th, 9th, and 12th Marine Corps Districts; to provide reception, processing, and recruit training for enlisted personnel following initial entry into the United States Marine Corps; and to produce a basically trained United States Marine embodied with the fighting spirit, core values and esprit de corps which have ensured our Corps’ success for over 240 years.

CAmcrdsandiego6

The depot is also home to the Drill Instructor School which teaches sergeants, staff sergeants and gunnery sergeants what it takes to make Marines; and Recruiters School which teaches noncommissioned officers and staff NCO's how to find America's best and brightest and bring them into the ranks.

CAmcrdsandiego5

Recruit training for those enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, includes a thirteen-week process during which the recruit becomes cut off from the civilian world and must adapt to a Marine Corps lifestyle. During training, drill instructors train recruits in a wide variety of subjects including weapons training, Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, personal hygiene and cleanliness, close order drill, and Marine Corps history.

The training emphasizes physical fitness, and recruits must attain a minimum standard of fitness to graduate by passing a Physical Fitness Test. Recruits must also meet minimum combat-oriented swimming qualifications, qualify in rifle marksmanship with the M16A4 service rifle, and pass a 54-hour simulated combat exercise known as "The Crucible".

Ready to Go for God

Bible in a Year :

I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.

Ephesians 4:1 The book Hidden Figures recounts preparations for John Glenn’s flight into space. Computers were newfangled inventions in 1962, subject to glitches. Glenn didn’t trust them and worried about calculations for the launch. He knew one brainy woman in the back room could run the numbers. He trusted her. “If she says the numbers are good,” Glenn said, “I’m ready to go.”

Katherine Johnson was a teacher and mother of three. She loved Jesus and served in her church. God had blessed Katherine with a remarkable mind. NASA tapped her in the late 1950s to help with the space program. She was Glenn’s “brainy woman,” one of the “human computers” they hired at the time.

We may not be called to be brilliant mathematicians, but God calls us to other things: “To each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it” (Ephesians 4:7).  We’re to “live a life worthy of the calling” we’ve received (v. 1). We’re part of one body, in which “each part does its work” (v. 16).

Katherine Johnson’s calculations confirmed the course trajectory. Glenn’s launch into orbit was like “hitting a bull’s-eye.” But this was just one of Katherine’s callings. Remember, she was called also to be a mother, teacher, and church worker. We might ask ourselves what God has called us to, whether big or small. Are we “ready to go,” exercising the grace-gifts He’s bestowed, living “a life worthy of [our] calling” (v. 1)? .

Reflect & Pray

What has God called you to do? How has He gifted you?

Dear God, please help me embrace what You’ve given me and live a life worthy of Your calling.

Hey there, Kathy.

Yes, had a great time at the museum today. It was a widows group who went up there to hold this month’s meeting, then tour the museum. Several are widows of veterans and they enjoyed the place a lot. I heard some of them say they plan to take their grandkids there this summer when they come to town to visit. Some said they’ll be there Saturday after we told them about the planned activities. Not only will we have the cannons but Devon will be there to give people rides in his British APC again, and I don’t know where it’s flying in from but there’ll be a Black Hawk helicopter in the field out front. I can’t wait!

It was a gorgeous day here, like it is up there, but it was just a wee bit warmer here. LOL Not as blinding here, though, because we don’t have the snow you have. Man, it’s bright!

A very pleasant good Tuesday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country and thanks Lauren for this morning's thread.

Yesterday at Comanche Lake:

We had to sit in traffic on the highway to the lake yesterday because some ODOT (Oklahoma Dept. of Transportation) idiots decided to do stupid roadwork and cause a freaking bottleneck.🙄 It took 4 minutes to get past that to get to the luck.

As of yet no storms here. Right now They're all up in Northern Oklahoma.

How's everyone doing this morning?

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

Good that you don’t have to deal with storms tonight. Gizmo didn’t have to hide under the bed.
Are you expecting nasty weather this week like we are?

Um well, I think we had a risk area that was issued by SPC which included a part of our area. We should know more later this morning if we are still in that risk area. It was for Thursday.

Let me go ahead and post the link address to our local radar for everyone to copy and paste. For some reason, I couldn't get the link to link in my last post.

Dang. Thursday? I hope that peters out before it gets this far east. We already have severe weather in our forecast for Wednesday. One round a week is plenty!
Maybe you’ll get lucky and won’t have severe weather after all on Thursday.

They did in fact send down the updated outlook for Thursday and our area is no longer in the outlook. We'll see what happens though.
